There are a heap of online calculators that will convert this for you. If not tyre manufactures will mention the OD of each tyre they produce on their data sheets.

However to manually convert it, here is the maths:
For a 285/75R16
16" = 16 x 25.4 = 406.4mm
285 is the width of the tyre & the 75 is pecent of the tyre width that is the height of the side wall so
285mm x 0.75 (or 75%) = 213.75mm

therefore total tyre height = 213.75 + 406.4 + 213.75 = 833.9mm

for a 33" tyre:
33" = 33 x 25.4 = 838.2mm

therefore a 285/75R16 is in theory 5mm taller than a 33" but this will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer

Hope this helps.

.....then they sell you a 33" tyre that is actually 31 1/2" diameter :roll:

33's are roughly
255/85-16 (33.1)
285/75-16 (32.8)
305/70-16 (32.8)
285/70-17 etc

315/75-16 (34.8)

Just look up a tyre website and it'll give the nominal measurements and the dia in inches.
Cheers
