24V MQ question - please help, my little girl is sick:(
24V MQ question - please help, my little girl is sick:(
The mq started normally, but when it was switched off, it wouldn't turn off. The motor kept running as if the keys hadn't been switched off. In order to turn the car off, we could either manually control the pump or disconnect the 24V regulator. With the regulator disconnected the car turned on and off normally, except that it did not charge. But when the regulator was connected, it seemed to back feed the loom and keep the ignition energised even when it was switched off. If the regulator was left connected, even with the car off, the charge light remained on, and various other lights and instrumentation remained energised.
With the car running and the regulator connected, the car charged and operated normally!
Has anyone got any ideas?
Cheers

i had something similar happen to me at one stage, hit the key to off and it didnt turn off but it started fine. half the time i had to stall it and occasionally it would turn off.
I replaced the regualtor ( $90 ) and it is all good now,
though i didnt have the problem of stuff still being on when it was all off.
Is very strange indeed.
Might be worth changing the regulator??

mmmm don't know about running the alternator without the reg as it may damage it. Regulators go on them often. Drill a small hole in the bottom of the outer casing to allow the water from the condensation to escape as thats what was killing mine when i had it. Have you put a multi meter on the wire to the injector pump to see if it is still energized after turning the ignition off?? Also they are prone to injector pump controller failure as well as they sieze up on the inside, as i have rebuilt a few of the bloody things.
Hope it helps

I may be way off track here but when the same problem happened to me i found that the fuel pump wasnt turning off. Their is a solid bar that runs to the fuel pump on the drivers side of the engine. I found that it had disconected as it is only held on by an "e" clip. So fuel was still pumping through the engine but all the electronics were actually off.
Hope this helps.

Check your injection unit's control lever, it has 3 positions - Off, Start, and Run. Remembering that the only way to switch a diesel of this type off, is to kill the fuel feed, when you turn the ignition key to the off position, the power to this fuel control is killed, it drops the lever to the off position - no fuel / no run.
Another point to remember - if you loose one or both of your batteries (or alternator, or regulator), as long as the engine is running (and you have fuel), you just need to wire the lever into the run position and you will keep running (even without any form of electrical service).
