One very large and expensive boat anchor is all thats worth now .... Welding would be expensive and unlikely to last long at all.

Not to be a pessimist but if this is all too expensive to repair, try flogging the truck off and buying a better condition something else.

I've seen way too many bodge arsed attempts at fixing mechanical shit to see it cost more in the long run.

Do it right the first time or take the consequences......... It's as easy as that!

Best luck with it all but

fair enough only trying to help.....

You have to remember that sometimes second hand it the expensive route unless your planning to flog the truck off.....

Why not bring a V8 conversion forward if that's what your planning to do later........No use throwing good money after bad...

I chem welded a head and it lasted 3 years. then it went again, chem weld wasn't enough so we pulled it off , had nearly $800 worth of repairs done to it, lasted about 6 months then was fully f@cked. The amount of stuffing around was not worth it . I contemplated going the 8 the first time and now regret not. Go inj or straight gas. :D

Try QMR - Queensland motor recyclers @ rocklea. You may be able to get a 4.2 turbo complete. A mate paid about 7g for an import one with less than 20 odd on the clock. They also sell heads too.

Only a Aussie would ask a dumb question like that about his head,

Maybe he needs to take a look at his own head

Just joking, use it for a set net weight would be my suggestion and move on to a V8 chevy LT1

Yeah I got that opinion, but just giving some comparos. A mate came around last night wanting to turbo his truck at 350k, and want to rebuild it & buy a turbo for it. I told him the same thing { he can sell the old one for 3-4g. Just thought I'd give some further options. YOu never know - the bank might be keen to make some money out of you............

QMR - $1250 Exchange complete for complete with valves etc. I just rang them for you

Hey H@mmer

Why don't you come and buy one of those good TD42 motors that I have just sitting on the shed floor waiting for new owners.... I've got that 95 model with only 220,000 on the clock, complete for $4000 and the 91, with 248,000 on the clock for just $3000.

Those prices are complete including starters, alternators, injector pumps, water pumps, flywheels, pulleys etc etc

I know you've been trying to fix this thing on the cheap but that will only bite you in the @rse mate. If you decide that you want to go the V8 conversion it would be interesting to compare what it has cost others to do it .. .my guess is that you wouldn't get any change from $5000 and the value of the truck may not be the same after you convert it

Cheers Simo
