the only differences between this engine and a feroza engine is the extractors, different cam and different computer. The block and head are the same as far as I know.
The ecu computer is VERY VERY similar to a 1.3 charade computer.
Slightly different power curve between the 1.3 and 1.6 cos the 1.3 revs out to 7 (DOES it ever!!!)
I know this because I used to own a 1.3 charade and spent a lot of time on the daihard message board (http://bbs.daihard.org) researching to put an applause or feroza 1.6 into it. It was a cheaper conversion than paying the exorbadent price for a detomaso engine... which is really nothing special at all.

There could be differences in the sensors, the distributor will definetly be different, the entire EFI wiring loom and computer will be different etc. etc.
I recommended getting it as a package for those reasons; plus the old engine is shagged anyway.
I've read that the Detomaso's have a higher compression ratio- don't know if that's true or not??
nope.. not that I know. its all same-same.
as far as I know, all daihatsu H series engines have the same efi wiring and sensors in them.
I know someone with a 1.6 in their charade, and the only thing they changed was the engine.. everything else just wired up the same
why would the dizzy be different?

Tzi -- beware of cheap imitations
Distributor wiring and EFI looms would have to be different as the HD-EG has ECU controlled ignition timing. Ferozas are weight and vacuum advance with no interface to the ECU.
Small parts like that are what the wreckers really sting you for- better off buying a whole package (particularly if your engine needs a rebuild) or going aftermarket ECU and modding your own distributor to suit.
I had a G11 Charade with a CB70 engine transplant that I did. Parts for that cost big $$$ and were hard to source- the Detomaso engine would be similar I'd imagine.

Being that they were running the standard box I assume they had bored out (or stroked?) the HD-E. The guy got all funny when I asked if I could post pics and info about it on here and then stopped responding to my questions....
He also had sourced diff ratios from somewhere too....
never can understand someone that doesnt want to share how they have acheived something with modifiying their car/4wd what ever.
with my Mr2 i always take pics etc of all the shite i make and do to it, and dont mind telling people how or what i did. will be the same when i get around to putting a huffer on the feroza. i'll have to watch that 3rd gear by the sounds of it for sure though.
when mine went - I didnt notice any problem with 3rd specifically. All I heard was funny noises coing from it. The shop pulled it down and found input cluster, 3rd and something else I dont remember.

With mine, I remember it was one of the bearings had come apart, making a kind of grinding/wyning noise on 1,2 and 3 gears. But it would disappear on 4 and 5 gears.

yep....... 1,2,3 and 5 are on the same rail in the box, which all the gears sitting on it, 4th is on a separate rail. So I was told....
