Carlton some of these Safari's must have allready got into the Aussie market as there was one parked next door the other day. Looked like it had been here a while too as it had a lot of custom bar work and internal cage and a set of 35bfgs and a lot of body damage.
It could have been a personal import i dont know. But it had what looked like a factory Safari sticker running the full length of the side of the car.
I will ask the neighbour what the story was with it next time i see him.
ruff, anyone could have brought one in personally or even as a dealer, but the tax and stuff would be massive.. the thing is now they have hit the magic 15 year old mark, so they are dirt cheap..
A1, I am in the same boat, I am actually thinking of getting one to tow my other one..
i called ben. he's good but since there's no bulk buy, i think my importers can beat his price. he also says there was no factory turbo until the mid '90s.
so i'm gonna wait till next year and get an '89 model.
say nine thou (give or take a few hunjy) landed and complied for a swb diesel manual. ben said he verified with nissan regarding the factory turbo and they said no. there might be a few for sale with aftermarket turbos.
I know 3 people in Melbourne that have bought GQ SWB petrols for $6000 in the past 4 months. 1 was a ruffy and the other 2 were OK, there are some bargins out there if you are willing to wait but a diesel one is like rockinghorse shyt. I am looking at a SWB Mav ATM for $5900.

I have a 1988 shorty for sale with 3inch king springs rancho 9000 35 inch goodyear MTR about 90% tread 4 inch body lift warn highmount winch and a new arb comercial bull bar lpg/petrol auto on 250k I have the log books for it and service history. the colour is silver .
CRUSHU wrote:it depends on cost, but i wouldn't mind a lwb, but i would prefer an auto
auto is no problem
according to carlton/wendle, lwb models can't be imported due to fair trading laws
according to bj, the 89 is better than the 88 due to bug fixes
Not sure about the tray, will have to ask ( NAM or Wendle), I do know the trays are holding there value better than the SWB and LWB, also the tray has the same chassis as the LWB 118".
