Yet another ZD30 prob for the list!

Post by mattsluxtruck »

Ok this one is about my olds truck. They went the patrol and bought a 3.0 which i have no idea why ma used to tell me how much better it was then my shitty old lux but she may be beginning to think differently now. Its a 2003 ST. On the way back from fraser they fuelled up and about 20k's down the road the engine management light come on. Contacted Nissans great roadside assist who are actually the NRMA and their advice was disconnect the battery for 20 seconds and refit. Problem went away. Two days later problem returned when back at home so off to Nissan it goes. Nissans reply was water in the fuel needs new injectors and pump $6000 please. What we cant understand was it was engine management light that came on no fuel trap water warning light. Has anyone out there seen this before or know any possible avenues to try? It all just seems a bit over the top for me. Whilst good old ma is a know everything bitch the old boy is ok and want to give him some constructive advice with this.
Thanx heaps for any help.
Cheers

Have heard that these injector pump really dont like water. Would suggest using one of the fuel additives. As most of these have abit of alchol in them. Which allows it to pass thru the motor abit easier without damage.
As the water settles in the bottom of trhe injector pump and rusts out all the little bits.
This may help. Would like others opinions though.

Got a receipt (time, date, quantity) for the last fuel fillup?
If so, approach the RACQ for assistance to get payment from the Service Station. They are insured for this, if you have evidence.

I know its a bit late, but isn't there some kind of water trap/filter contraption you can fit in-line before the fuel filter. I know about the lucas cav filters, but I mean a proper water one.

you wont get a reco pump and injectors for a grand, more like 3-5000k. Plus fitting, can take as long as 15 hours to r & r pump.

New pump prices are almost the same as reco.

Yer dont know what Bogged has been smoking today. But I have seen a 3lt with the injector pump out. It would almost be easier to pull the motor out then take the injector pump off. There is alot of crap that needs to come off the motr to get the injector pump off. Probably a days work just to get it off.

New injectors should be around the $60-80 mark. And at a guess the pump rebuild could be upto $2000. Depending on what needs to be replaced. These pumps supposedidly have alot of small little parts that are quite fiddlly.
They are alot more technical than the pump on the TD42. And they can cost upto $2000 for a complete rebuild.

These pumps have an ecu located on the top of it, only a select fuel diesel repairers have the equipment and traing to do so. Parts inside are diff to a td42 pump.

Prices generally are subject to a stip and quote.

Injectors I will let you know.

When I lived in the NT, the company I worked for had the same problem with HZJ landcruisers.
We fitted Racor water trap filters, removed the standard toyota ones and never had a problem again.

If you read owners manual, you'll find that "check engine" light comes on if there is trace of water in the filter.
Nissan suggests that if check engine light comes on to drain some fuel from fuel filter,in order to get read of water.
Is there any other problems that they have noticed other than check engine light?
