This is ganna sound really stupid, but what is the name of the things that go onto the end of your axels and lower the wheel so the diff is higher off the ground, you can use either chain or gears and i know a guy in Geelong used to make em but i don't think anyone else does.

no it's like a um the axel goes onto a gear instead of the wheel, hub what eva and then there a 2 more gears that go lower with or without reduction and then the lower gear goes out to the wheel and spins it. you could easily get the center of the wheel 3" lower then the axel center and i think a little off set because the wheels are moved out alittle.

nope they dont and the cost of them it would be much cheaper to buy some mog axles and convert them for your rig,


but the main question is why ?????

do you need them ??

or they just for looks when ramping maccas bins and shopping trolleys

allready running 33's and my dad thinking of making them for his nissan and others if he can make em relativly cheap. only thoughts at the moment though, nothing concrete. i'm just doing some research for him.

You dont even know the name, but yet your conidering making them? :?

However you do it it will not be cheap. If you have access to all machining equipment and can do it yourself it may be possible, if not then good luck on $$$$.

There is only one person i know of that has made a set.

Volvos are 5" or 6".

dads a mechanical and electro engineer got a all the machinery at work. didn't know the name because we've only ever seen one picture of these in a 4wd mag and it didn't mention what they were

would a chain drive require less engineering?

obviously it wouldnt be good at speed

but if its just for a buggy, perhaps it wouldnt matter

i have seen chain drive on rollers and other heavy equipment, and they dont look very technical at all, no where near as technical as that picture above.

If you could use the chain from a chain drive tcase and machine up a couple of new drive gears for it, it may be a possibility. Should be strong enough, and the speed shouldn't worry it too much. Only minor problem would be keeping everything cool, may need a small electric pump wired up to circ oil to a oil cooler.

Don't know how much chains are out of other tcases but the ones in the rover tcases are worth $1500 ish secondhand last time I priced one.
