Okay, its time to get some new tyres...looks like I'm gonna give the X-terrains a go. Can anyone give me some constructive feedback on procomp X-Terrains?

piss weak sidewalls, go with bfg?
don't the new bfg's have pissweak sidewalls?
A mate of mine has run X terrains for a while now and has been happy with them. He's just got a set of simex's for more serious stuff.
I've seen him drivce some hardish stuff on the X terrains. I think that they would be a good compromise. But it depends on what terrain you want to drive.

best all rounder out there If you do a decent amount of road as well as rough stuff they are a great choice. Simex etc will always be better offroad but my xterrains have allowed me to drive alot of stuff my mates mtr's wouldn't. They do cost though

My mate runs them and he loves em, seen him drive most different terrains with them without much hassle. They aren't unstoppable but no tyres are. He uses his for daily driving as well as offroad.

Agree with the others.......... except Mudtoy.....
Great all rounder. Not bad in mud when new. But does slide sideways.
Never had a prob on loose grevel. Always keeps its line, and I drive it pretty hard.
Very good on road.
I have done heaps of rock stuff, normally at 18psi. I have had them for well over a year and no damage what so ever to the side walls. Very little chipping. I will definately get them again next time.

Yep and since they won in a year with bugger all mud. Thye must be pretty good in all the other stuff. Like rock, high speed dirt and gravel roads etc.
They are are called 'Xtrerrain' this is as in 'cross terrain' not extreme. These are posistiond in the market between the AT's and the Muddies. So in the same category as Coopers ST's I would say.
For there price I think they cost to much for the market they are selling in. As for that price you can buy simex or swampers.

i dont have them but seen em in the bush. I reckon they go as well as any other mud terrain in the slop, and go better on road,
so if you just want a m/t tyre they are great, a bit dear but good.

VERY STRONG TYRE!!! If you air them down as reccomended by the manufacturer. Very good on all surfaces (except Mud) even after 35000 kays. But were brilliant in mud for the first 15000kays. I have never had a puncture. Have been running around with 1 tyre cut down to the steel belt on the tread for about 10000kays now and no sign of coming appart. after 35000 kays 50% worn
Ive got 37's and i believe there made from different compound to the smaller sizes . I think there great, there heaps better than A/T 's offroad and have better side lugs than all the mudterrian tyres. Ive got simex's and swampers and ther great too but if im doin a long trip with blacktop k's the Xterrains are rule.

Been running a set for desert travel, Hay river, alot of gravel work high spee dthere and back, on 37's [in for sale section going cheap too with rims ;-) ] and couldnt hurt them while doing so, even alot of forging our own tracks, and some of the madigfan line this year in the desert.
Good on road as well, and would still be fitted to the car if we werent bringing in Pitbull tires.

For rock, sand, dirt, and street, the X-Terrains are the best all-around tire out there...their performance in rockcrawling and now their overtaking of desert racing is a true testimonial to how good the tires really are...that's right...Pro Comp is changing the faces of speed sports like desert racing too, including a couple of big national level wins in top classes.
For those that are keeping track, before the BFG's went to stickey compound, we beat them in every rockcrawling hillclimb obstacle the competition course designers threw at us.
For the next 1.5 years, they had stickeys, we didn't, so there was not a good comparo. Then, in the first ever competition on Pro Comp stickeys, with only 15 minutes of practice on the new tires, we won, and actually went on to win 3 out of the 5 final events...not a bad record of the tire's performance.
Also, know that we were on the factory XTC compound in the Aussie event and we were competing against stickeys from the other tire companies...had we been on the Pro Comp stickeys, it would have been a runaway of an entirely different kind.
There is a reason all of the teams are now calling Pro Comps the "cheater tire"...they've got the best compounds in tire manufacturing...for street or crawling competition.
For HEAPS of mud, and snow, the story is different...you can find something better...otherwise, the X-Terrains are a good tire.
Finally about the sidewall. In five years of running them, we've had one puncture...ONE...and not too many people run as much as we do...we did 20+ competitions a year for four years plus numerous trailruns, special events and ride and drives...ONE punture from a root we never saw.
By the way, 5 PSI on the 37's and 2-3 psi on the 40's is what re run the pressure at.

i run 35 xterrains
on road they perform better than any other mud terrain i have driven, including bfg, mtr and pro comp muddies. the voids are small on the xterrain, and the lugs are big, however, the lugs are sipped, so they work when you drop the psi. (at least on rock, where low psi plays a bigger role in traction)
being a directional tyre, like the baja claw, they do tend to loose lateral traction on heavy cornering on loose surfaces. the vehicle will skittle more easily. nothing like a bogger (and yes, i have driven boggers fast on loose surfaces), i would still say they hold on better than the claw for lateral traction at high speed on dirt. nothing like a simex though. (which considering a simex is bias ply, says a lot about the simex, and why 98% of the winch vehicles ride on simex)
as for mud. small voids, fill up and clear less easily. the voids dont have ridges either to assist the mud clearing (like the bfg mud terrain)
as for side wall strength, all due respect to simon, but comparing sidewall strength of a xterrain to a bfg mud terrain is a forgone conclusion, especially since michelin bought bfg. I have slashed 6 bfg sidewalls beyond repair (brand new tyres as well, less that 10000km on them) 4 of them were the new bfg muds, 2 of them were the old school ones (the og bfg mud). there sidewalls measure 9mm, the pro comp measures 11mm.
the construction of the xterrain sidewall though is superior.
i have not witnessed a slashed sidewall in an xterrain.
i have witnessed plenty of bfg sidewalls slashed.
the pro comp muddies i had years ago had been flooged to the shithouse by adam cherry in his then 400ci powered 40s. and he new where to find the skinny pedal (in fact, thats all he knew )
when i picked them up, they were rooted, and i still gave them a spanking without ever slashing a sidewall.

For all of our loyal customers, thanks for all the support and backing. They are the a great tyre, but I don't think there is a brand out there that makes a tyre that is good for everything.
The X-Terrain is a Cross Terrain tyre, not an extreme tyre. When you buy a pair of cross terrain running shoes do you expect them to work as well as Footy Boots??? ........................... I didn't think so.
Lets be realistic here. For a general all rounder they are an excellent tyre, providing excellent traction in the sand, on the road and on the rocks and a reasonable amount of aggression in the mud. If you want a tyre to work well in the mud, buy a muddie, or something more aggressive.

My mate, Mr Warnesmith, the funstopper, or 'beadbreaker Bob', as we call him, has 35/12.5/15's on 10" rims and rolls one off his rim at least once a trip, sometimes twice....Getting to be a running joke, hence the nickname...
I can't fault the traction, but running same pressure, none of us have ever done the same, go figure!!!
