After fitting the new 34" JTII's on stock suspension there was a bit of rubbing on the flares so i removed them from the 90 just for a look.
I decided i quite liked the look of the raised wheel arches so i decided to make some new flares from 150mm wide lawn edging bolted to the holes from where the factory flares were attached.
Looks lifted already since the factory jobs came down several inches

But seriously - aren't flares required to withstand a certain force to be legal (not that the stock defender ones probably would). However, they look good - I assume you did the colour coding yourself.
How do the 34's move up and down, in and out? Any scrubbing?

Suspension is stock at the moment but +2" springs & shocks will be here soon.
The top picture of the 90 with no flares is completly flexed with oposite wheels hanging. The rear drivers side tyre is about 20mm shy of the top of the wheel arch. I get cross axled before anything rubs, all limited by the stock susp.
When i get new coils and shocks im sure they will rub & will just have to lower the bumpstop a fraction. We will see!
The front tyres still scrub the radius arms on full lock even with these offset rims but i just adjusted the lock stop nuts and am happy with the turning circle.

The 90 looks good too!
They are not as sharp as they appear however i will round all the edges off this week.
Regarding the legality i thought they were fine as i have had police go over friends 4wd's with flares done very similar & had no problem. I will read up on it.
They are very stiff though, i could easily sit four stubbies on the flare at least, just because of the support the arch shape gives to them.
I bought the material that colour!!

I have just about finished resyraying my car with new cut up guards so the garden edging may be the cheap answer to new flares.
Over here in Germany, all beer comes in either 330ml bottles 500ml bottles, and sometimes 1L bottles. Makes sense when you think about it: 1/3L 1/2L, 1L.
But for some strange reason the twist top never caught on here - 99% of beer is not twist top.
i have started modifing flairs for the county by spacing them out from the body 3 inches with strips of 1/4 inch conveyor belt. There was a D90 similar in a LRO mag last year sometime and they made the car look really wide.
Checked out the garden edging at bunnigs last nite.. very strong, durable an uv protectent, came in arrange of colours an wasnt badly priced.

Id just bought them! That was outside woolies in the carpark while i was malling
But a note on the flares. They dont stop the 90 getting dirty! These tyres seriously paint the car with mud as soon as you drive anywhere near the stuff It turns brown just going up my driveway on a rainy day

I used a very similar product on my Suzuki for yeras. Awhile back I got a defect notice and part of what came up in the rwc requirements were that flares had to be structural enough to deflect a pedestrian from the wheel area and ths they weren't deemed to be strong enough.
So technically they aren't legal because if a pedestrian is stupid enough to get that close to a moving car you can't have them touching a moving wheel but its ok if they hit 2 tonnes of moving car

hmm... These new flares a definatly stiffer and stronger than the original flares that were quite flexible. Im sure they are illegal but the look and perform far better IMO so theyre staying legal or not till i get defected

i had some lawn edging on my zook. The stuff that DFDN90 used is definantly a lot less fexable than the stuff that i used. They are a lot stiffer setup than say a set of bushranger flares or something like that.
