I have a set of 305/70/16 (34.5") claws on at present with oodles of room under the guards and am wondering if anyone has tried putting 36" swampers on? I only have 60mm body lift so this could be changed.

Yes they have, Shane (you know him) had a white Gen 1 swb with 36" swampers. It had a 2" s/l and the guards were cut a bit but I guess you don't want to do that.
There are some Japs running around with 34-36" swampers but are running massive body lifts (3-6").
There are a few guys with Gen 2's running 35"s and generally you need a 2" s/l and 2" b/l however Shane has a Gen 2 swb running 35" MTR's with only a 40mm b/l (standard suspension) it's tight but he reckons he only gets minimal rubbing.
I think you will go very close as it is but I would've said 2-2.5" s/l and 3" b/l to be absolutely sure. I have heard that over 3" b/l a Paj handles very badly (particularly a swb) almost bordering on dangerous. This feedback was via a Jap website I found a while ago but lost the link.
I would try and borrow a set to bolt on and flex it out if you can just to check it could save you lots of headaches.

yeah.. didnt want to get more in body lift.... Far too top heavy. Had 35 BFG muds on before and was not an issue. Just curious to see if anyone has them on....

Have you changed ratios to run 35s? If so what are they.

Most early 3.0 V6 Gen 2 5sp have 4.88's after that there are only 5.29's. You can get a crownwheel & pinion straight into the rear diff but the super select front diff is the problem. Only 2 options- retrofit a Gen 1 V6 front carrier (low pinion) then a 8" 5.29 crownwheel will go in. Or downgrade to the smaller 7.25" super select diff as found in NH auto's or Gen 2 2.5 TDI's as there is a direct bolt in 5.29.
Unfortunately there is no 8" super select front 5.29.
The problem is the super select front diff is a high pinion housing with a reverse helix gear cut crownwheel & pinion compared to a normal cut, low pinion design for the Gen 1 front diff.
