A simple CV question.

A simple CV question.
I just pulled the inner axel from my spare CV to have a look see, anyway, its the first CV I have pulled apart and I aint sure about the little C ring at the top of the axle spline that was inside the CV Bell.
Is it meant to be just a C and how do you get the axle back inside the CV with the ring sticking out at each end?

Ok, just done some reading, its a simple reshape of the ring so it doesnt hang out the sides.

As for seperating them, whats the best way. I just used some metal pipe that was slightly larger than the axle outer diameter and just gave it a gentle bash. Popped out in like two hits.

Tonka if you ever need to remove the axle from a CV on the trail. First look above your rear wheels at the chassie.There is a piece of tube that runs from rail to rail with usually a rubber cap over the end. Remove the caps from both ends and slid the axle into the tube and then slam the CV up hard against the rail and the axle should pop out of the CV. If it doesnt slide all the way through use a stick or a CB arial to push it right through.
It is worth going to a CV reconditioners and buying half a dozen C clips for the end of the axle as spares because nine out of ten times it will snap in half when removed. Theyu should only cost a couple of dollars each at the most.
Easiest way to fit the axle into the CV with the C clip fitted is to first get the splines started then with 2 flat blade screw drivers push the clip in and then the axle should drop straight in.

How is he going to crack the CV and axle apart with the wheel on, first you need to jack the car up remove the wheel and then remove the hub and ........................ok ill shut up now. Tonys way sounds better than mine.

Yeah, I read that Ruff, but I dont have enough lift (just) to use that tube unless I flex the truck a little. I ended up using a piece of pipe, but did the same thing. The c-clip is what I was talking about, as I didnt know what it was meant to look like, I think mine is busted, hence I wasnt sure of its purpose. All I have to do now is buy some spare C-Clips for it, and find a place that sells them.

No by all means go on im curious how you jack the left side high enough so you can slid the axle down through the holes in the swivel hub without it touching the ground
