changing from 3.5 to 3.9 EFI converion 88'rr

changing from 3.5 to 3.9 EFI converion 88'rr
A short while ago i bought a 3.9L engine form a 92 rr, i've put the engine in however it's still running the old ingection system form the 3.5, the engine runs ok however i have the 3.9i EFI gear, has anybody done this conversion before as i'm not sure how to conect the new loom the the old one. Plus just for interest will changing to the new EFI system make much of differance is it worth doing?.

I tried to bypass this when I was installing LPG and found the car ran a lot better with this installed than with it bypassed, the idle control adjustments are really handy/needed

Not to start Sh!t but i don't use one at all.... Once it's diabled you have to re-tune engine (main Idle Screw)
Only time I have problems is on 1st start on a VERY cold Melbourne morning... I guess the days that it snows in Brisvagas will cause u problems
But the more i think about it Don't waste yr money on 3.9 Injection (AR going to go NUTS again) It's old tech and will only get u a little better everything...
Buy a Wolf, Motec ot Mega Squirt and be happy like me

Absolutely I would agree on buying a different ecu, one that employs an oxygen sensor would be a good start, and mick you are right if I disabled it and re-tuned it I would not have a problem, instead of trying to bypass it when on gas and have it active on fuel

OK, I already stuck my foot squarely in it! I was assuimng the 3.5 you were referencing was using Lucas injection management (hot wire).
Judging from the other responses, a flapper style was being discussed-something not often encountered in this hemisphere.

But, now I'm even more curious as I have a lady client who has interest in converting her 4.0 litre Disco to LPG, something it seems some of you have done.

I was under the Impression that Yanks like big fuel guzzling cars....

U need LPG tank, mixer and ring..... I am not a LPG man but i have played a little bit with it (awfull stuff) dries out yr engine takes up room in that already tiny cargo area etc... Does or will she go straight LPG (Gas in Aust) much better!!! but a waste if she has an EFI engine setup... well that my PO anyway.

Does it have coil packs or a dizzy ?
Dizzy - I can send you photos
Coil packs - you are on your own But you have to tell me how you did it
The dizzy ones are easy to do and don't need much/anything in the way of electronics the coil pack ones are a different story and I have never done one or had a close look at one that has LPG on it.
I am not sure you can just cut the injectors and fuel pump with a relay and turn them off like I did with my 3.9 Hotwire rangie.

I hate to sound like a stuck record but for that 4.0 Disco it could be worth fitting MegaSquirt instead and have done with it, see this thread on LRE near the bottom for the discussion of handy features like switchable fuel & spark tables. It will be a bit of effort to set up (you will have to get the soldering iron out) but if you get it right it would be a really sweet setup and not include the usual dual-fuel compromises.
