IFS rears into rear of gen 2 hilux
Ok I know it's been asked so many times before and there has been alot of threads on it already, but i wanted to find out some specifics.
1. With extended shackles say 200mm and the IFS springs how much of a lift does it give over standard?
2. Is it perfectly fine to not extend your driveshaft?
3. Wheres the best place to source IFS springs, NO wreckers in Perth have them!! I can get them from "slosh" but he's in NSW, so be easier if I could get em in Perth for cheap aswell.
4. What sort of articulation do you get outta putting IFS rears and extended shackles in?
5. Are there different models of the IFS springs that work better than others?
6. Can you do it without / \ your shocks and if so would it eliminate alot of potential articulation?
There thats all i need to know.

ifs give alot more down travel, u should be fine depending on the shape of the guard, it probable would be better to have a flat tray due to the wheel arches will not line up

5. Are there different models of the IFS springs that work better than others? not really, but u can take out leaves, etc to make them softer for more flex, this also increases chance of axle wrap so u would need to instal a track bar.

I've sourced a set of IFS springs from OL for $50 but he reckons im an idiot for trying to put them on the back of a gen 2 lux. Says all you guys don't know what your talking about, but you've all done it and i've seen it in action so I'm gonna give it a shot.

different people have different opinions, but i love how mine rides and i like the fact i can flex well over a meter. the results prove that they work, there aint too much work in it either. u could re-drill ur perches if u really wanted to, i dont no anyone who has redrilled ifs rears though..... but i imagine that it is possible.

so that means u can drive up onto a 40"tire
u should be able to get a bit over in inch buy redrilling the spring perch
so u prolly wouldnt be able to tell it is moved back

but surely if i redrilled the spring perch an inch forward the point where the old hole is would be a weak point that could snap. = Me doing a 110 then bye bye spring pack, and i'm dead.
I might put the IFS rears in with the extended shackles and put em on a ramp just to see how bad they will hit. If its to bad i have 2 options.
- Panel beat the tub,
- Redrill the spring perch to leave the diff where it originally was.

well at the moment its about 90cm, but when the fronts done will flex even more, scotty's car can flex on a 44 gallon drum with all 4 wheels on the ground, its the same set up as mine pretty much

i read it before as your rear flexes 1meter
have never measured it but i can get the rear wheel up about a m without getting the other rear wheel up , i couldnt at first however, but now they are wearing in, they are working really well now, will be interesting when i have the rears up front next week or so

ok I've spent hours reading past posts about putting IFS rears in. But from everyones experiences whats the best thing to do when it comes to the bushes??? I did notice AUSYOTA set them on fire until they melted out.. While others used the original ones.
Got the springs and getting the 200mm eye to eye shackles soon whats the next step??? I'd rather spend 5minutes on here asking people who have done it than F$%king around for hours trying to do it. and yes AZA i did notice there has been ALOT of threads on this!! they could almost make a sticky thread with step by step instructions to fitting IFS rears into a hilux.

Im in the process of doing this myself. I got the proper bushes for the IFS model the spring came out of from Pedders (go to supercheap though). The shackle bushes are 18mm inside diameter, you could use your old pins if you can press them out, but i have opted for 18mm high tensile bolts with nylocks. I could only find greasable pins the stock length, so i have turned these bolts into greasable bolts (im using 10mm bar, stock is 6mm so they will be too short). As for the front mount for the spring, if you take out the sleeve that comes with the bush it will take the stock anchor pin perfectly.
Aza, Bubs... ill take heaps of pics when i put this in and write up a DIY thread on it, your input would be valuable as i havent done this before myself.

all im saying it would be better to renew an old topic than make a new one, especially when there was on on the front page when u originally posted and me and bubs have thought of making sticky. mayb a couple of guys with ifs rears like me should get some pics of how they have mounted there shocks, there schakles, and everything else and get a couple of different ways, also some pics of there track bars and when u should run one etc. if anyone is willing to do this then email me the pics and some info and we'll see what we can come up with

depends which bolts ur using, anything from 18-19mm should be fine

You do realise that redrilling your spring perch isn't like redrilling your springs? Your spring perch is mounted on the axle housing. I know this is probably obvious, I just dont see why you think it would snap. If you were worried its a piece of piss to weld a piece of flat bar on there and drill that. Then your perch would be at least 6.02 x 10²³ times stronger than your stock perch.

Get the pins you want now and drill them to the correct size, i wouldnt be drilling out holes bigger than the pins, youd want a tight fit. If you use 19mm i dont think the proper bush for these springs is big enough, you will have to source a different bush. Where are you going to get 19mm greasable pins? i couldnt find anyone who sells them other than stock size.
m18 bolts are getting very rare!!! i am getting 6 machined to finish my front end thats how much hassle i am going through getting them
