Vn 5L in patrol, hi volume or not
Vn 5L in patrol, hi volume or not
i am putting a 5L in my patrol i have standed HQ sump for it but i am worryed about it not getting enough oil on big angles. has anyone had any problems with oil pressure in there V8s
when i have some revs in my 5 litre the pressure is fine....
its only at idle that im only at about 5 pound oil pressure and when trying to idle up a hill crawling i have low pressure on the angles....
definatly would go a high volume pump, its one of the things on my to do list

oil pump
A high volume pump can empty the sump and fill the heads, due to poor oil return on holden v8, if they get a load of right foot! Which will cause bearings to fail.
The bullshit stops when the cv's pop!!
i've heard of people shimming the relief spring to get a bit more pressure but in your situation i would just put on a new standard pump. as previously mentioned a high volume pump just fills up the rocker area with oil that isn't needed there and emptys the sump. some engine builders put in restrictors to prevent this.

This is a bad mod because it gives you more pressure not volume. It also blows the oil filter seal off on cold mornings. Go the pump.
If you worried bout oil pickup at angles you can also use a high volume sump, that way then you are at an angle & giving it a bootfull you wont runout of oil. It will also aid with cooling.
Don't ask me, ask them. I'm just runnin for my life myself.
