Ser 11 Disco's ETC report

Post by Casey_leonard »

Hi All
Just read an alarming report on electronic traction controll (ETC) on the Ser 11 Disco without centre diff lock (CDL).
Go here to read report: http://4xforum.co.za/articles/disapdisco.html

So far I have only used my Disco on the sand with ETC only kicking in on steep climbs up sandhills with no loss of forward motion (throttle down).
I plan on doing several trips into mountain country towing an off road camper and am concerned that the ETC will let me down, any comments?
Was wondering if the ETC could (or should) be disconnected, or should fitting a CDL overcome it's failings.
Cheers

It can be a big problem without a centre diff lock.

ETC works well with a centre diff lock and Quaffe LSD.

Some discos have the internal components of the centre difflock but no lever to operate them. There are kits available to rectify this. Some year models do not have the internals and it is $$$ to rectify. The centre diff lock was bought back in later models.

Put in a CDL kit and you will not have a problem, and you will find you can go a lot further.

Personally I would not drive a Disco2 in the bush without CDL. If you have to back down a hill you are risking your life and that is not overstating. I have seen 2 home video's of disco's rolling because of locked front wheels while reversing and experienced it first hand not long ago when a mates CDL refused to operate.
Thanks,
