DIY Snorkel Questions?
DIY Snorkel Questions?
I was thinking about making up a DIY snorkel and had a few questions. What angle bend did you buy? WHat size pipe did you buy? What did you make your's out of? Where abouts does it enter the engine bay and how did you do it? Any pics of any of this would be great. I was thinkin about making it out of steel and then getting it chrome dipped(bling) but was interested to know what you all think is the best?

i would do a similar thing next time except use steel maybe . It has a slide on extention to take it to the top of the window . just slid on its a pritty good seal , the filter can take a bit of water befor it gets sucked in etc so a small leak at the seal is no biggie . And lets face it if I have serious water over the hood the elec's will die soon anyway .
Cheers

Hey Nuggs,
You can buy the hoses and cheap ram heads at detroit diesel, either that or use the radiator bends.
I am going to get mine bent up at greenwood tyre exhausts probably for bout $60 in 3" and then buy the ram heads and all that.
cheers
Nic

In my last roll over/flop the screws I used to fit the snorkle to the windscreen surround ripped out and busted the windscreen
so be careful in your design...I've now strengthed the area with some plate and will run a new mount some time in future.

With my soft top, my mount joins to the windscreen hindge mount. Has been flopped onto lighty, and still okay. Dont think it would like a heavy landing.

yes they are expensive, thats why some make thier own.
I think you need something to keep rain out when parked, and a big enough opening to get good airflow
I fitted mesh across, to keep out sticks, leaves and such
