I am now driving a 1990 Hilux with a 22R engine. Just woundering what sort of fuel economy people are getting out of the 22R. I seem to be getting 14L / 100km at the moment and am unsure if this is bad or not.

Mate i nearly get that from a V8 discovery!

Yeah I am guessing it kind sucks. My buggy gets like 8L / 100km with a pr of 44 IDF's on the Beach.

I would have though it should have been more like 10L / 100km which would at least give me 600km ish to a tank.

Brad when mine was 22r i was getting aprox 320km to a tank :cry:

I thought these 4 cylinder donks were meant to be economical ..

Hey Ruff, I have had a look around to get some specs on your 22ri but have found nothing, you got any info on what it was ? I am guessing to use that much fuel it was not stock....

It was stock but had an efi kit from a corona fitted which had no knock sensor or oxy sensor fitted as the coronas dont need them but it was just not economical in a 4wd but another guy on this board is running it now and its getting better economy as he has advanced the timing to 15 and its got a lot more power.

Might have to give it a bit of a service and check out the jetting. I am having trouble beleiving that it can't do better than what it is . Was it much hassle to go EFI ?

I'm happy if I get 350k out of 60L around town and doesn't change much on the open road. Got a mate with a 2wd and his about the same. When I first got mine it was running on 33s and getting 22L/100km then I went to 31 and tuned it a bit and it would hover between 18-19l/100lm and now since I've gone back to 33s it hasn't changed much. I'm jealous :twisted:

WTF you are happy with over 15L / 100KM from a 2.4L 4 Cylinder engine ...... wow I guess I had better get use to fueling up and footing the bill. At least it runs unleaded which is cheaper than LRP..

My bundera has the 22r engine and I get around 10.8-11.5L per 100km on the highway (with nothing in the car but me) and mayber around 15-16L/100km around town (I accelerate pretty hard around town but not on the highway).

I found mine imporved once I took off the carby/ reconditioned it and cleaned it.

Maybe some of the other bundera owners can shed some light

MY work ute, 3.0L diesel, 5 speed, no a/c, empty tray, weighs around 1900kilos, has 4.56 (from painful multiple diff swap) and gets around 500kilometres, from every 65-70 litres that I put in. That includes, 4 wheel and 2 wheel, city and highway. The more highway the better it gets. When its all city and some 4 wheel, it can be around 400 and less if i let big nev drive :( :oops:
hands and mums dont count!!!

as I stated earlier, mine aint too bad but she is a heavy drinker if I hit the loud pedal!

you guys have made me feel a bit better now about my 4y economy, i usually get 400km/60l and if its going right up to 500km, and once 750km.

robbie you dont need a special machine just a couple of screw drivers.

CPLUX is that around town?

I find there is a major difference between the around town and highway (4-5L per 100km)

I know where the mixture setting screw is, but I dont want to run it too lean.

they dont tune up your car by smelling whats comin out the exhaust :finger:

ok I see what u mean, you can do the lean drop method (which is what I do) Or if u want an exhaust smeller thingie then goto dicksmith/jaycar electronics as they sell them for about 20$ and just DIY...

400+ km ususally around town, when its going well (which it isnt at present) thats was with 33" tyres and 5.71 diffs, dont know what ist getting now but it now has 33" tyres 4.88 diffs and currently doing a supercharger.
Best i ever got was 770km on about 55l from newcastle to my brothers place at cobar in a single tank, how dont ask me but most of the trip was at 80-90km as we were pulling a huge load.

Just went to the Manar from Toowoomba for easter used just under half a tank ( 40 lts ) 250 k's. Approx. 16 lts - 100 km & towing a full box trailer, sitting on 100 Kph.
Mines the Fuel-injected 22R , 4.88 diffs & 35" Centepedes. :D
