another lift thread...4" GQ

Ive done a search but cant really find anythin specific so..
im after springs and shocks for my 88 GQ wagon , its a 4.2 petrol manual.(also on lpg)
I want to lift it 4". Is there anything else i need to do when i put in my springs and shocks, like extended brake lines etc.? ive found alot of info on it here but i just want to be sure.

You need front castor bushes and extended brake lines. Also longer links for the sway bars if you are keeping them on. Good idea to use adjustable panards to champ.

i did a 4" lift on the weekend!
i used Dobinson's 4" springs and Pro comp shocks all purchased from Cris's 4x4 Accessories at Caboulchure, Ludacris from here.

They are very comfortable and the ride is just as good iff not better than factory. You will need the castor modified (bushes or plates) and the brake lines lengthened. Adjustable panhard rods front and rear are on their way to me.

thanks sounds like a pretty easy job. whre can i get the caster plates/bushes from, any 4wd shop? are there different types of plates and bushes? also can u just buy the longer brake lines or do i need to get mine modified?

Cris is in Qld, so freight would kill him compared to what you can get local in Melb.

i've had a 4" lift for 4 years and ran without longer panhard rods. However one day when i get enough cash i'll put them on.

And no need for longer brake lines, just extend the mounts.

Mate in my club had one done by them, it was a real shitfight to get it sorted out. could have been a one off and theres always 2 sides to a story

I had a thread on here yonks ago and Camshaft1 told me that he had a 5" lift with nothing else other than springs and shocks.PM him and he might be able to tell you more.

Look you can get away without longer brake lines or adjustable panards but it is a cheap and bodgee way to do things. I can supply extended brake lines which are braided for $160 a pair.

If you cannot afford adjustable panards that is fine but the truck will crab walk which is no big deal but I would put it down on the things to do list for the future.

To add to what Ludacris said about Panhard rods. You are also putting stress on all your bushes because your axle is getting pulled to one side and your springs won't last as long because there is a bit of a lean on them and you run a higher risk of damaging your shocks. You may also find that your tyres will rub on one side and not the other.
But people do get away with it.
