If ya like the black stuff buy a petrol, but if ya want to go offroad a diesel is always the go!

yep but most people dont have to rebuild the engine, if they are buying a car new, they leave that for the 2nd or third owner.
and a diesel should get a shitload more k's (200thou) before it dies compared to a petrol.
I had an 04 3.0TD Hilux and i went great but it did like a drink, 420-440 km/Tank (55ltr) 7.8 Km/Ltr and at $1.20/Ltr was getting expensive. Went for a test drive in a 4.0 VVTI V6 last week and im picking up my new Petrol Lux next week. I Know the petrol will suck more juice but what a nice jigga on the highway.

Seems hard to believe but then again Nissan's td 3.0L doesn't seem to be all that exciting to what it sounded like on paper.
Yeah man shes got 120Kw and I think 343Nm @ 1400rpm
double overhead camshatfs, 4 valves per cylinder, common rail injection, variable vane turbocharger ( I think ) and all electronic

Compared to the all new V6? The newish 4 cylinder 1KD is a few years old now and shares some bottom end components of the older 1KZ which has been around for 12 years or so for which you can buy aftermarket kits for.
I'd say the 6 cylinder donk will cost more for a rebuild as geniune parts will be your only option for quite a while.
Remember, the older 3VZ V6 4Runners cost more to rebuild than the 3L 2.8 diesels. I'm rebuilding the old man's 2.8 donk ATM. Complete kit was $400. More cylinders, more bits, more cost.

Yep variable nozzle that what the V stands for in the engine code, 1KD-FTV.
Dont forget you can buy a plug in chip and get some 144kw and 410nm straight out of the 1KD with out touching the boost. Also the service intervals should be greater now as the soot load in the oil is greatly reduced with high pressure common rail injection.
As an aside its remarkable to think that Lexus has had to put a diesel motor in their next IS200 model so they can cater for the luxury car market in Europe.
