New Rocky Questions?

New Rocky Questions?
Hey guys, am new to the site, and will post a pick and avatar of my new- to-me '91 rocky. I am in Wyoming (US), and bought this neat Rig to get me to the mtns, around them, and back. It has 30" coopers on it. Will probably never go all out like some of you guys, but would like to improve on what i got, and keep it around for a few years (179K miles)
So i have a couple of questions for you pros. What is the best way to Increase Horsepower, and hopefully fuel consumtion, on a around $200 budget? HP coming first. There is already a k/n filter on it, though I would change it out if there were a better option.
Has anyone added a Turbonater to your Rig, do they work as advertised?
Secondly. On long steep inclines on pavement is it normal for these little buggers to only run around 60 mph, or less? Not worried about it, if it is normal.
I can add pics if it would help. Thanks.. Dan
Sorry I am not proficient in Metric!

hey pruist! welcome! glad to see another fellow american rocky owner! ok hp wise increases, i would say exhuast. u need to junk that cast iron exhaust mainifold and see about slappin on some lukey, MRT (dont suggest them) or hurricane extractors (spendy to import, only one in the country to date thanks to me). i would suggest leaving the cat and muffler on (the 1.6 gets pretty loud, more so in the higher rev range, i know. lol). you also want some decent piping from your exhuast exit tip to the mainifold so that when you lay off the throttle, the cold air that is sucked in doesnt reach ur valves and burn em.
your next option would be to install an electric fan and throw out that viscious coupling fan. really frees up the torque range and gives you a bit more grunt.
since you have 30 coopers, i'm assuming the torsion bars have been wound already.
as for mods that cost no $$... not possible! better start diggin out ur wallet cuz the mod bug is gonna bite..... HARD.
steep inclines, yeah its normal, more so with 30's. the rocky doesnt have all that great of gearing and the grunt is pretty small (only 92 hp!) so get used to shifting down quite a bit. dont be afraid to see the revs reaching as high as 6,000. she'll take it.
keep an eye on ur timing belt if you can. find out the last time its been changed and change it if its close to its deadline (45-50K miles). for if that timing belt snaps while the engine's runnin, you can kiss that head good bye. (got a rebuilt one with less than 4K on it for sale here. )
if you want more pics or ideas, feel free to PM me or toyhatsu, hes in col. and is doing the extreme to his rocky so you should look him up.

Free stuff- check your ignition timing ( 3 degrees BTDC with vacuum advance disconnected )
You guys get higher octane fuel than us, so you could try advancing the timing further and run the highest octane fuel you can get. BE CAREFUL OF DETONATION!!!
Check your oxy sensor is working too - see FAQ.
PV neglected to mention that the Hurricane extractors will not bolt straight onto a LHD Rocky- they need major welding mods due to the steering column. MRT are 4-2-1 design and will bolt straight on, Lukey are 4-1 design and will need some welding work done to fit them (ie. join them onto the exhaust system before the cat.) MRT are the best value, but some people have commented on how poorly welded they are.
You could try removing the cat with a bypass pipe. Just make sure there are no oxy sensors in the flow after it- or else you could get a fault condition in the EFI system. The USA Rocky's run a different EFI system to the Aussie Feroza's with more pollution gear- so I'm not sure if they've got anything like that?

So, are Genie extractors accesible by me? Are they 4-2-1? do they have flex pipe to fit?
So, New exhaust, muffler and extractors.
The best deals money wise?
Where on the internet or phone do I contact these companies?
Excuse my ignorance, And i really appreciate the help. thanks, Dan
Heres a bonus pic of my Rocky.

wow u even got the original hub caps. nice! i had some but i have long since tossed them away. lol. genie it seems doesnt look like they hold much luck. i would say that MRT and Hurricanes are the only ones now that sell them in a 4-2-1 design. lukey is a 4-1 design. i ordered a set of hurricane exhuast from aussie which had cost me an arm and a leg. sadly i never got around to fitting it due to roza havin a multitude of problems so i decided that since i plan on droppin in a v-6, spending the extra $$ which i dont have to fit the extractors was a bad idea, so i sold em about a month ago for $300. the guy i sold em to was not very nice either, havent heard back from him or anything. didnt seem remotely interested in the board either which was a shame. i would of sold them to you instead if you had popped up a month earlier. i would suggest going for the hurricanes, contact david about that if you like, but beware, i paid serious $$ (around 500) for shipping, tax and everything. the mrts didnt really offer much quality from what i had heard. ur other choice is to go with lukey, people have seem pleased with it.
as for ignorance, there is none. you just havent had time to have ur eyes opened to the wide world of daihatsu. thats why i said.... beware. the mod bug will bite.... hard. took me a year and a half... but man it bit.... HARD! heres a pic of mine and you'll know what i'm talkin about.

Run that guy down!
actually, What rack do have on there? That is presicely what I want for mine. Don't you have trouble taking off the top with it on the back?
You nobody has tried the turbonator? The theory is solid, and I am sure it works, it says it is good for at least 10% gain in Hp, and in MPG. at 69.95 I think it would be worth it. It might be just enough to help me turn those 30" tires good enough to power around the Nat'l forest trails. Read about it here http://www.turbonator.com thanks again, see you around, Dan

Hi Purist,
This thing you speak of sounds like a similar "gimmick" they sell here in oz, called the Hiclone.
Its best IMO to ask an un-biased opinion on this product.
Dont expect mere proof to sway my opinion.
