Unfortunately I'm not competing this year as the missus is due to pop out our first kid on the 18th of May. Pretty poor planning I must say  She is as disappointed as I am as she has spectated the last 3 years also.
I have already booked the kids 1st birthday in for Broken Hill next year though

The new property out on the Darling River flood plains sounds very interesting and hopefully it will turn out as much fun driving as we had in 2001 at Wilga. Wilga was easily the highlight of 2001 for me.

Hope everyone's preparations for this year are coming along nicely and would like to hear how your going also. Even if it does make me

Cheers, Shane.

P.S. Congrats Henry on the Pajero win.

Did it very unprepared at the last minute last year for the first time in which we were sub'ing my own vehicle for a mate's vehicle.

Glad they've made it one class this year. Still don't know if they'll weight scoring any differently ie felt the system didn't reward effort enough (including missing the 'fun' events which broke the week up a bit) . The driving was great!! Good variety of tough stuff.

The speed packing several times a day got a bit repetative and up to 6 hour transports sucked ass. Would do it again...maybe ;)

Just my reflection a year down the track. Good on em for keeping it running ! Have fun whoever's in.

Hey Mal, yeah it would be great - Robin is coming over from the UK again and we are going to give it a red hot go (new turbo being fitted as per last year’s video). Hoping for a teen finish but would be happy to just get through it without something major going wrong (like the last two years :bad-words: ). Then again I suppose we weren’t the only ones to experience trouble.

Looks like we are going to have 3 cars there (Steve Hobbs, Alan Mc {if his car is finished in time} and me). There’s a good chance there should be someone in the group I know although I hear quite a few of the long time players aren’t entering this year.

Sorry not to see you at this years Pajero although I understand the travel is a killer. Are you going to make it down for the ATECO???

So who's going,

My wife and I have entered... I just hope the Rangie Ute survives.

What preparation is being done? not enough...

I hope he leaves the suitcase back in the UK.... :D

Hay Jason, Good to hear you and the wife are going through with it. At least you two won't need to worry about the cold desert nights!
Did you want to catch up before heading up there?

Dont be daunted by the scale of the event, be consistant and drive to finish, as that is an achievement in itself. And most importantly, have fun, it is an experience you will never forget.

And pray you dont get the gorge run as your first stage like we did :x , everything after that is easier.

I'm not competing to win, just to try and finish and get as much knowledge as I can to come back next year and have a proper go at it. I've still got to finish building the truck yet. Too many things not enough money/time.

6 Weeks to go   .. I should get organised.

Doooh wrote:Did you want to catch up before heading up there?

Yes we will catch up..

We are currently trying to get organised, Steph finds it easier if I spend a little bit of money each week in preparation rather than whole chunks :D

I have to drop in and see Steve to organise a few things as well as organise a few spares through Kermut, so I was going to take a day off next week to start organising things.

I look forward to catching up to all who are competing there.

Time is creeping away from me......

Half way through cleaning up the electricals in the Rangie, winch has been rebuilt / prepped, getting mechanicals sorted out over the next two weeks.

Got the new GPS though I don't know how to use it (maybe my wife will learn as we drive up to Broken Hill :?: )

Packing.....too much stuff not enough space.... not includng the things I haven't thought about yet :D

Just over 5 weeks left

Well I was just having the car tuned and found:
Fuel pump not working,
Leak in manifold,
Viscous hub b*ggered,
leak in seal between timing case and block.
Total repair bill $2,000 (of course I had to put in a new cam and timing chain because i was there)!!!
Ah well better now than in mid May.

So good to read of the new entries this year.....you are going to have the time of your life...it is undoubtedly the most challenging 4x4 competition/event in oz and that's why we keep going back. Suckers for punishment.
No seriously, we go for the event as a whole, the people, the differing 4x4 driving stages, the terrain, the mateship, the challenges, the works, it is just unreal.
It's also good to see another mixed team, tho I so wish there was another women "driver" who would enter.
Yes there are a few of the oldies who have dropped out and some are saying it's there last time this year , we are trying so hard to get back for our 5th and final run too but so much is going wrong it will be a miracle if we make it, in our "inappropriate" vehicle, which it was dubbed on our first year in 2000. We might have changed a lot since but it's still the same battered chassis.

Regards International teams, 3 South African Teams will be back and Terence is returning in a purpose built dual cab with a Vortex thumper!...he was fast in his chevvie jeep but the new one's faster! Alan is returning in his white jeep and a mate Chris will be bringing another dual cab with a Lexus V8.

Blokes aren't real keen to give advice or tips but if any of the newbies want to know anything don't be shy, just ask.....we have learnt lots over the years and don't mind sharing advice...afterall you don't want to take anything u won't need.

I always say if you manage to get thru the entire week you're a winner regardless of what place you get.

Hopefully we'll see u all at Broken Hill soon.

Good Luck and as we always say, it's a challenge just to get to the challenge.

Cheers,
Celia
