mud tyres, opinions?

Post by purefmx »

The zook's been running 31" AT's for the past 3 weeks, and i want to upgrade soon. Im going to reset the leaves 2 inches and add a 2 inch body lift to squeeze 33's under. Just wondering what ppl's opinions are on the range of MT's out there? I was thinking about goodyear's new MTR's or maybe some simex's, still unsure?

I realise u just posted u wanna run 33"

But i have a mate with 4 31" claws for sale 1 of them is up at METROCHECK there on 8" rims zook pattern of course i ran these down at the outerlimits trip to FREDS hill GOOD TYRE with plenty of tread he was askin $900 but he has had them up 4 sale for a while so the price may have dropped

If ya interested i can give ya his mobile no.

Cheers Dan if not i would go for the Goodyear mtr in that size(33")

they offer plenty of grip on the rocks and r good onroad

In regards to the claws i'd like to check em out, maybe sometime this week, let me know if he still has em, even though they're 31's. As for the MTR's, my mate runs 33's on his Patrol and they're great on road, however they seem to clag up instantly, i spose most tyres do.

MT/R = Maximum Traction Reinforces or Mud Terrian Rooted :finger:
MT/R's are not really designed as a muddie, although they do OK - they really shine on rock.....
For mud you want swampers (NOT SuckBirds), Simex or maybe claws...Just my 1c

Depends what you want to do, I run 33" BFG MTs for most things as they are pretty good in the mud and also OK on the road, for hardcore mud I switch to some 35" Simex Centipedes. Dreadful on the road and not so hot on sand either, but awesome in the goo. If you only have one set of tyres then you've got to compromise something... so it depends on the ratio of road/trail/bog you do.

I run 33 MTR'S and i swear by them on the zook.
They work great on rock and i found them pretty good in the mud out at the jamboree.
(mind you i was in third gear low range with the right foot planted hard on the firewall.)
I feel thay are a excellent all rounder for playing hard and diving on road.

P.S The hilux diffs will be going next week.
Will post some pics when done.

i have a set of bfg's and have borrowed and driven on MTR's id ever since then i have wanted a set so i got some picked up some 37" MTRS 2day so ill c how they go but i doubt ill b dissapointed 4 an allrounder tyre.

i got a mate with 35" MTR's on a 60 series cruza and they have bout 5-10mm tread left and they still grip the same as wot they did the day he got them ( really well)
