Lock Right Lokka Question
4wd systems have dropped the price of their lock right lokka's from $749 down to $499......
It sounds like a good price & i'm looking to get one for the front of my GU.
Are they regarded as a reliable unit. Has anyone had any experience with them?
Are they easy to fit?

i wouldn't touch them personally had one in the back of the bundy . my mate swears by his though. he is still waiting on his rear lokka 8mths after paying for it so do c.o.d if you go for it.

8 months......I'd be arcnup about that.......did he eventually get it or did he cancel and get his dollars back......
I'm only looking at general 4 wheelin.....not comp work...

i have fitted a few and they are a snack. mate still hasen't got it he asked for his money back and they said no so he is still waiting. i have delt with them and they are a shit company and i am more than happy to bag them on a public forum. i ordered a f & r for the bundy and they said that i would have them before the weekend. the rear turned up a month after ordering and the front i just left at the post office (cod) when it was 3 mths late. now he has the same problems 3 years later. i hope they fall to companys with good service. i can get good service at woolies when i buy chewing gum. so bad service when spending over a grand is just simply not on.

I'm am considering this my my gq shortie. Considering that hardly anyone can do a front air locker with compressor install for less than $2k.
I already got a vaccuum operated rear locker so am half way there...
Can someone shed some light on how they operate. They're Obviously auto locking, detecting when traction inhibiting wheelspin occurs and directed torque evenly to both wheels....
What I mean is how do you drive with these in the front....Do you learn when they will definately positively 'Lock'. What about.... say you are in 4H playing in mud do you end up plowing straight ahead cause the thing won't cam out. How do they unlock when locked....
I am a 'crawler' at heart and very rarely make big stabs at the loud pedal so I think I could learn how to drive with one...

Think more like auto-unlocking. They are always locked. But when both wheels have high traction they will unlock (that click click noise) to allow differential action. But if they are unlocking ,like round a corner in the wet, and you stand on it hard, they will lock up and make things interesting. If you are plannin on running on in the front of a part tim 4wd, then road use is of no concern. But offroad, you will have a larger steering circle and it might be unpredictable as critical times. I have a detroit ezlocker in my zook rear, and after the initial bit, im used to it and have no real problem with it. I imported mine from the states and had it in my diff running for under $400. Havent had any strength problems, though now im runnin swampers i will have to see how it goes on the rocks, though i think my pissy zook axles will spit the biscut first. From what i have heard the lokka brands are a cheap knock-off of lock rights, and not worth it realy.

That pretty good......let me know what you think and how fitting went if you could. With a 3 year warranty not subject to tyre or engine size, you'd think it'll be okay.

They are shite. Had one in the front for two months and broke cv's like they were carrots. Got rid of it and no more broken cv's. Not to mention increased turning radius. Get a air locker it will be cheaper in the long run!!

another mate has a lock right on his mid cruiser and it makes the steering such an effort. there are times when you don't want a locker, and thats why arb's are on the majority of comp rigs. you can fit a s/h arb and compressor for under a grand. that would be my choice.

60's with lockers
100's std
At the begining of the 60's life just had a rear locker (lockright)
60's had a lockright in the back and blow it up along with the hemispere and axle.
a new lockright locker $950 + hemi $250 or a ARB air locker $1050 without any labour cost or bearings
So in went the air locker which you need an air compressor which I found a air compressor off a dumped car and modiffide and mount that to the engine and you have something that runs at 7.5cfm able to fill the big tyres that you run.
So stop chucking good money after bad
go and do it right in the first place it might cost you more up front but it be worth it in the long run.

I bought a pair of these few years ago when i had a suzuki spoa 31's.
was great off road, plenty traction.
on-road another story, change gear and change lanes simultaneously!
what click click sound???? if you shimmed too tight it would grip, when the shims wore it would go CLUNK CLUNK unless you changed your driving style (i.e. DAMN ANNOYING) apparently this doesn't happen so much on bigger cars or long wheel base vehicles. but i dunno...
eventually i took the rear one out and gave up on it.. had to swap the diff centre as it stuffed it up. broke pins a couple times since it was installed too.
Now onto the seller, delivery time was LONG, eventually it arrived, replacement pins were sent quickly and efficiently as needed. eventually i sent back my old diff centre and the lokka and said you tell me what to do now... after many calls i was reimbursed in the way of other goods that i needed when i upgraded car.
Have you noticed they no longer advertise SUZUKI lokkas?????? I was told this was going to happen after they had a few play up, including mine.
parts i got in exchange were a new snorkel and dual battery tray, cant complain about those things.
overall i would buy from them again, money wasn't paid till the day before they sent me the goods which was good, they stuck to the price quoted originally... and i cant blame them for the quality of the lokka, they sell the things but dont make them..

lokka ARB strength
How can people say that an ARB is stronger than a lokka. The actual comparable mechanism in the ARB is the spider gears which do the same as the lokka mechanism. Since the ARB only locks onto one axle the other side is driven only by 4 flimsy toothed gears. Compare that with the huge fu:k ars* side gears on a single or double pinion lokka. No comparison. If you replaced the hemisphere with a stronger unit like in the ARB it would be much better again. Which leads you to a Detroit locker. Slightly different mechanism to a lokka, by the same principal. excentric face cammed by pinioin shaft. The best locker you can get, all for slightly more than an ARB air locker. Lokkas use to be lockrights until powertrax stopped supplying 4wd sys. They got them made in australia then eventually were stopped from doing that so they made their own design, the lokka.
i have a 4wdsystems lokka in my paj 89 ...... ordered one day got it the next and im in melbourne (outskirts)
if i had the money id get twin airlockers !! no doubt about it - you have more control with it ..when its on and off .... that wins hands down.
but as a cheaper alternative it is GREAT ... i love it ....ive proved it with other vehicles just crawling up huge mounds that other fourbies just cant do.
now with people saying they break cvs and lokkas dont ... please explain ... they both lock the diff and have nothing to do with the strain on the cvs ??? when both are locked then there is the same strain on either.

With an auto locker, if you punch it, and a front wheel spins then the locker engages, it can shock load the cv far greater than having a air locker as it is already engaged.

An auto locka stays locked and under a no load situation when one wheel tries to turn faster than the other (as in turning a corner) It will unlock. Booting it in a loose traction situation just makes it lock firmer!!
