Octane Boosters
Ok, I'm setting my engine up to run on PULP (98) and for the odd occassion when I will need to fill up with regular unleaded if PULP is unavailable what is the best brand Octane Booster to use?

PULP is 95 RON i think .
98 RON isthe likes of, BP Ultimate,Caltex Vortex,Mobile2000 (i think),shell optimax(no good for bikes).The real expensive ones
Only diffrence between a 95 and 98 RON you`ll probally notice in a car is your wallet will be lighter, diffrence between PULP and standard unleaded will be your engine will ping, run rougher, may even run hotter in temp.I wouldnt be to worried if i had to put a tank of standard fuel in everynow and again.

I use Nulon Pro Strength in my Subaru WRX STI which is tuned for 98 RON fuel... even when I put 95 RON fuel. It works well.
Depending on your engine management, your engine may be OK to run on 95 RON (PULP) and 92 RON (Standard unleaded). The ECU detects knock and retards the timing (and sometimes changes boost and fueling) to control it. Not something to rely on though.
Richard.

i have a POS vitara 1.6 carby, and ever since the carby upgrade, i've been using PULP with Nulons octane booster every 4 tanks.
i find the motor runs smoother, quieter, better response, etc etc. i'n not too worried if i have to fill up a tank with normal ULP, but try to not do it often.
but the main reason why i use the octane booster is cos it cleans my carby and valves out.
i cant remember exactly what the booster was called, but its does a lot of stuff. $10 to every $180 isnt that much when you think about it.
