no speedo in 4 speed?

Post by andrew e »

after rebuinding the dash in my county my speedo stopped working. i checked the cable when i was driving and the cog isnt turning at all. the gearbox end is still in so i have either stripped the plastic gears in the gearbox end or pulled the gear off inside the box. anyone got a spare old rangie or county speedo cable they want to sell me?

I had a similar problem with my stage 1 (lt95 4 speed)

It was the shaft that goes into the gear that had rounded, leaving the cable to spin in the shaft.
It is only a 5 minute job to pull the cable from the box and check the gear. Just undo the nut/screws that hold the locater in place and pry the circular section out with screwdrivers.

If you get replacement, check the gear splines/diameter as there are about 3 different types.

A new aftermarket one will cost you $20-25 dollars. As above, be careful to get the right one as there are different fittings to the back of the speedo.
