Yep, cant recall the backspace, but the offset between the 16x7 Disco, 16x8 Disco and 16x8 RR rims are all the same. No problems. I'm running 16x8 RR rims with 285/75-16 MTR's on the Road, and 16x8 RR rims again with 34x11.5-16 JT2's off road. Depending on the tyre you want to run you may need to adjust the steering stops, lift it, fit a bull bar etc.

Hardy wrote:Ay Mick,
A guy in our club runs 265/75 Cooper ST's + 2" lift on his D2, and while his driving is a little conservative, he has not had any problems whatsoever.

In fact, another fellow (equally conservative style) in the club is doing a 2" lift and fitting my old 265/75 Coopers ST's to his D2 as well.

Once I do my 2" lift, I'm going 255/85 but haven't decided - stick with Cooper ST or go the STT (old style or new when available)
ST's are a fabulous performer on the tracks, sand and even bitumen, despite their supposed 80/20 off road bias. - cannot offer any criticism except yep, the side lugs do chip a little here and there.

HOWEVER - there was another guy in our club who broke his D2 diff - while LR reluctantly fixed under warranty they were adament his 245/75 (I think Cooper ST again) tyres were the cause - due to increased diameter, not grip. It was one of those wheel in the air spinning then gaining not just traction but a proper grip then breaking type of things.

My first suggestion to anyone starting out is go the chunky tyres - biggest single improvement for a standard vehicle.
Then I suppose the second would be to avoid excessive wheelspin - it means there's no traction anyway....

Hardy

Thanks Hardy

Always good to hear what other Disco drivers are using to aid performance. I think from the reports i've heard I might leave the Coopers due to chipping etc. I'm leaning towards 265/75/R16 BFG mud terrains at the moment as I would like some decent increase in performance off road plus don't want to start cutting arches etc. Will have to watch for wheel spin though - will force me to drive a bit better I think anyway, instead of giving it lots of right foot and ripping it up any hills!! Interested to hear you are thinking about putting 255/85 on yours, are you doing any cutting or just going to give it a try. Would be keen to hear how you go once fitted!!

Again cheers for the input and maybe see you out there some time - what club are you a member of? Looking at joining some clubs to give myself more experience.

Like the texta idea but will probably just see how I go without it.

Cheers anyway.

Hardy and myself are members of the Range Rover Club QLD. It's has a conservative side but people like ourselves do like to do something more challenging and enjoy doing so. I often do Hard/Extreme type trips for the club with good and most times positive outcome :D

The club has trips for all levels of experience, plenty of friendly people as well as helpful from a technical point of view.

PM Hardy or myself for more info.

Slunnie wrote:There is a group of us that are waiting on delivery of some speedo correction units from Iceland. Its about the only one that we could find that will work with the Disco2 due to the diagnostic pulses that go through the electrical systems in the car. The unit singularly is about US$150 + about US$40 postage. When they turn up and I can fit it I'll let you know how they go, but the ones tested in Iceland and UK have been fine. The unit is called "Truspeed". By the way, I asked the RTA about using GPS as a primary speed reading device and I got a verbal no, and later a 1 page letter response from the engineers that also basically said no can do.

Hi again Slunnie

Once I fit the bigger rubber is this going to interfere at all with the ABS, ETC and all the other electrics on an S2? What did you you have to do to yours?

Appreciate your help again.

It wont cause any dramas like that. It may use a little more fuel but thats about it. I haven't touched that part of the electrics in the Disco at all.

Mick,
I am not Slunnie ;) but can answer some of this. If you go 2" or less lift then you won't have a problem, brake hoses & SLS sensor leads are all long enough. If you go over 2" lift then you will need longer brake hoses & SLS sensor leads.

I don't beleive the lift itself causes any problems with ABS,ETC etc .......HOWEVER.......it is very likely that you wil not be covered for any warranty on these items if you do lift it. Not long ago there was no problems but recently LR have been giving some of us a hard time because of our mods.
Thanks,

Adam

Cheers Slunnie and cheers Walker

Puts my mind at rest. Am about to go and get some 245/75/R16 BFG MT's fitted and looking forward to it. Should be about right for the sort of drving I do and intend to do.

Appreciate all your input. I find these forums invaluble for honest advice from folks who have been there done it. Much better than relying on a feedback from variuous salesman!!

Cheers, Mick
