Fuel pump problem maybe?
Fuel pump problem maybe?
Hi
When taking off in my TB42 i sometimes get a jerking through the engine and when cruising also for eg in 4th gear 2500rpm it will jerk also.
Does this sound like its starving of fuel?
What should I check
Cheers
Eric

Update: I have replaced the fuel filter, all the leads and the coil. Next I am thinking Electronic ignition and a carby rebuild. Driving it home tonight it was jerking alot and the tacho was going nuts. Think it could be happening more on a tight corner. If its a fuel issue in the carby, a carby kit would fix it but if it was a fuel pump how would you test that?
Cheers
Eric
PS. if all of these things dont work the Gen III will be going in. Just kidding. I wish!

jerking
hey hows it going all
i had a jerking problem to but ive since got help
all jokes aside
just brought the misses a 90model Y60 GQ RB30s 160.000kms
3 weeks ago
and changed the fuel pump 4days after purchase
the fuel pump couldnt overcome gravity
was running out of fuel when at idle with front end facing uphill (even slight rise)
also starving for fuel on medium/hard acceleration after about 10seconds
also uphills on the move at any speed crawling to 100kms
ripped the pick up assembly out
checked the hoses where not split
prefilter was like new
removed all fuel lines fuel filter etc & blew out lines with commpressed air & blew out carby
clean inside dizzy with electrical cleaner & blew out
was going great guns for 2days after that
then it got worse so i brought a genuine fuel pump $127.40
(repco trade price $430.00)
guess thats why thay sold it
thort thay where up for some bills
anyways id be checking out your fuel pump supply pressure & flow rate
TB42S & rb30s carby fuel pump specs
Pressure 25.5 - 32.4 kpa
Volume 2.6litres per min @ 1000RPM
TB42E efi fuel pump specs
Pressure 299 KPA - 12 volts
cheers

Where is the fuel pump? Do you have to take the tank out to get to it?
Cheers
Eric
PS. its straight petrol no Gas
If its a carby TB42, then its got a mechanical fuel pump located just above the steering box. Or follow the hoses from the fuel filter going towards the front of the car.
Dont expect mere proof to sway my opinion.
Cool, what is a replacement fuel pump worth on a TB42?
Fri night I cleaned out the dizzy and bent the rotor arm a tiny bit and she ran better for about a day then went to poo again. Its getting quite undrivable.
I'll let you know how it runs after the ignitor is installed.
PS. I dont think its the ignitor II

Just had the ignitor put in
Runs like a dream now! The points were stuffed. They were the 2nd set of points in 10,000km.
Now I have a power back that I used to have without the popping and carrying on.
Money well spent for $250 installed. And the Pertronix Ignitor is all inclosed in the dizzy. No boxes in the engine bay.
Cheers
