Best places to get work done

hey just looking at getting a bigger set of wheels the 31in cheese cutters i have at the moment are gay, also want to do a lift and some springs were is the best place to go in brissy to get it done?????

do it yourself? small lift isn't too hard to put in especially as a kit.

spanners/ sockets to fit

frame stands (jack stands). a jack, i use my hilift heaps for this cause it lifts the body and not the axles.

grease.

new bushings.

if coil sprung a coil spring compressor is handy. someone else may have a suggestion on that. i've heard ratchet straps or hand winches, but i've never used them and never condone it

if leaf sprung a new set of U bolts, because you may have to cut them off (grinder or hacksaw if your keen, but not usually needed). i've been told that you should replace them anyway because they stretch and aren't as strong second time tightened.

the lift kit.

shocks if their not included in the kit. your stock ones will probably be too short

3 years ago i'd changed 1 tire. that was all mechanical knowlege i had

suspension swap was one of the easiest things i have done to my truck. takes more time than an oil change but almost as simple.

don't forget to find out if your springs have a specific side they have to be on. usually written or stamped on the spring, but whoever sells them to you should be able to tell you. some do some don't have specific sides.

just be mindfull of which components go where (i.e. keep all rear mounting hardware, bolts etc sepereate from the front. take note of which way springs go in (especially if they are longer one side than the other)

what size tyre you wanna run? i'm not familiar with specifics about your type of truck. i don't know what size tyre you can run without a lift.

i personally only lift high enough to run the tires you want. 2 inch is pretty standard.

prices usually from 500 -1500 depending on vehicle.

33's will fit with a 2" lift but to run 35's you will need 2" suspension and 2" body lift and they will probably still rub on the back of the front guards when steering with articulation. either tyre will also rub on the inside of the rear guards no matter how much lift you run (unless you go spoa) when it articulates.

to do the job right you really need to replace springs, shocks, all bushes, all u-bolts, and it is a good idea to add greasable shackles while you're at it. it's a pretty big job to tackle on your own and not something you want to do without assistance. you will need a socket set with deep sockets to tackle the u-bolts, a couple of jacks, flat ground and about 5 - 6 hours (4 hours with air tools).

If your middy has the 3B or 3F motor you are likely to be disappointed with the performance on 35" tyres, you may find yourself wishing you gone for 33's and/or re-gearing the diffs to a more suitable ratio. the 13B-T will cope but with any of the engines the low-range performance will suck.
