Yeah, doing it again I don't know but if I did it would be with a 3.5 V6 (preferably a NL GLX - without the plastic flares).
The reasons for this is the bigger motor to run the 35"s easier, factory 35mm body lift and massive strength of the 3.5 V6 drive train.
Certainly I am wrapped with the end product.
Offroad it is simply sensational compared to what it was, the major difference being the offroad smoothness now due to the wheels being on the deck more. It drives stuff much more easily now.
The increase in unsprung weight at the front with the live axle arrangement definitely helps keep the front end down on steep hillclimbs the IFS used to kick up alarmingly at times.
The car also feels so much more stable and secure now offroad than it did with the IFS.
I luv the front ARB over the Detroit I'll always argue in favour of the selectable locker over an auto-locker everytime after having both in the front. The only way I would put an auto-locker in a 4x4 is if there was no ARB equivalent available at the time.
Onroad it's a different story though you don't put in a 5 link front and 4 link A frame rear into one of the best handling medium 4x4's ever made and expect it to handle the same..............................having said that it's not a daily driver and it was built pretty much for offroad stuff.
I'd still like to fit a thick rear swaybar with a cabin operated disconnect to tie the rear down better onroad but thats about it.
The car goes into Cheezy again in a few weeks for some more serious mods -
- change front steering damper to a softer rate
- custom rear tube bar with swing away wheel carrier
- modify front bar to accept a high mount winch
- bolt on centre crossmember with HD bashplate
- some other minor things
