I missed out on some great close up photo's because there was quite simply to many "recovery" people on the course standing directly in front of me. There is absolutely no reason for the recovery crew to be on the course when a vehicle doesn't need to be recovered, apart from them wanting to get a better view to watch and at times standing in some stupid places that they deserved to be run over for.

When "asked" to move, you ended up with replies like "go buy the video when it comes out", it's not like i actually payed to watch the backs of a bunch of people in safety vests walk around on rocks.

You will find that the people in the safty vest were actually Tuff Truck officials and photographers. The recovery team were all in safty shirts, not vests.

Either way, half of them didn't need to be where they were, as the officials judging and scoring never seemed to really get in the way, the ones holding the cameras never really got in the way. Yet there seemed to be "floaters" not doing anything more then watching, constantly standing in the way of peoples views. If these people were there to keep an eye on the crowd to keep them behind the 'bunting' then it wouldn't have been to hard to kneel down along side it and keep out of the way.

Theere were too many of them, they were all a PITA for spectators.

I counted 10 sometimes 12 around each car on Frame Twister. Some photographers got abusive when asked to kneel, and there were 3 or 4 of those. There always a few marshalls, thats fair enuff I guess. But the TLCC recovery guys should be off the course when a car is running, not on the course watching.

Next year guys just take a saftey vest with you and walk in the middle. There was too many people in there as far as I am concerned, but they are the experts not me. I was more pissed at how long it took between trucks. They would wait until the car was recovered before starting to brief the next driver. Why not do it at the same time?

I was right at the front and missed out on about 15 photos cause one of the officals had to walk next to the trucks. All he had to do was walk a metre in front and every photo would be fine. Other than that it was great and got some awsome pics.

PM me your email me and what truck if you want any. Too many to post on here

well what a bright bunch of chaps the tlcc lads are.
it only took 13 officials half an hour to realise that they could let vehicles out a section of fence on mini wiraba :? . but heh lets face it, that would mean they have used their common sense.
it is good though to see the teamwork involved in having a dozen blokes trying to put in one wooden stake :? . i seem to remember a saying about to many chiefs?.
lets get serious about who and what needs to be on course at any one time or the paying spectator will be driven away by a few people with massive egos..

glad to see im not the only one who feels like this. when you have 4 people from 4wdtv, another 4 from offroadimages, 3 recovery guys, 2-3 officials plus some other randoms, it becomes a pita. its not just like this at tufftruck either, most events seem to be going this way, thats why i dont bother making vids anymore

and the recovery crew  ....why did they need 3 different vehicles to get sam kecks sierra outta the all terrain track? i could have walked back to the campground, got my 2wd rodeo, driven back and still got it out quicker than these guys

The thing with recovery crews is that they have to be so careful that they don't damage the vehicle further, they have the safety of spectators to consider etc. It is alot harder to do a recovery at a comp than out on the tracks. Also remember they are volunteers (aren't they?) and are doing their best.

antt ROCK ON!

the others too, its exactly right!!!!

tell ya what at the nite run i think the officials were lucky there were no glass bottles.

wht shiats me too, is i got to frame twister early, front row, the official said, this will start in 15 mins. well over an hour later the 1st vehicle turns up. im in a top spot, oh wait mr.4wdtv or whoever he was from is going to stand infront of me everytime a truck jumps out of the pit.

heres a tip: before you get crowd rage, howabout 1 video guy on track. the rest get there early and wait like the rest of us and get their spots.
offroadimages is a dud anyways! they should stay home.

these recoveries were heaps quicker then the previous TTC's.
go the excavators!!!!!!! ok some damage occured but you dont enter TTC and worry about panel damage.

and prepaying didnt save time at the gate for spectators, it was faster at 12:30 friday to buy a ticket at the gate.
about 45mins to get into the event??? bit ordinary. instead of stop, inspect ticket, go check it off, come back. how about we just do it in one stop, or do it like maccas with radios

as antt has said the officials on the gate have a tough job to do and they do it the best they can....also they dont end up seeing too much of the action either ......unlike the crews who are on the track.....we were near the finish line of the frame twister on saturday and had a perfect view of the bonus line over the big tyres....however whenever a truck would attempt the tyres there would be at a minimum 8 guys in some sort of reflective clothing,be it vest, shirt whatever that would stand up right in the way and basically stop probably nearly 75-100 people from seeing the action.....despite repeasted calls to squat down in front they never did.. i couldnt get any footage at all and neither could the people around me...so if you work it out if the 100 people that got pissed off by this dont come back next year then that is somewhere between $3500 -$5000 that the organisers wont get next time....i think they need to address these issues along with whatever other criticism they get and deal with it all in the correct manner to help improve on events everywhere.....

other than this i had a ball at the event and arms up to the qld boys.. at least you arent afraid to drive it ... i think for me the highlight of the weekend was beebee and greg driving rocky horror on sunday without winching... correct me if im wrong but im sure they were the only team to do so....

How did it compare to previous TTC in regards to food on site, access to the comp areas, rubbish bins/general rubbish left after events.

Did they build thhe viewing mounds for spectators and what about the commentators?

As far as access from parking/camping to majority of comp area they had a small bus working, but it wasn't that far of a walk anyway. No mounds for the spectators, commentators were shoved in a scaffold tower and didn't repeat the word 'bunting' enough.

i was disgusted by the ammount of shite that was left behind by most people and so were the organisers the bog hole event was just disgusting to say the least i mean come on people how hard is it to put your empties into your esky or in the bins provided the officials comments were people use the bins or we wont be back here next year sad but true....

as for the commentator he needed a rock thrown at him hahaha dial in those numbers hahaha the ammount of people on the track was annoying to say the least i got over 600 pics and the majority had fat asses and heads in them not to happy about it but what can ya do that wank from 4wd tv almost got cleaned up big time on a couple of the stages by the competitior

Access from camp site to stages was pretty good. They had a bus running, but the walk wasnt to far. Only problem was the definition of walking pace varies alot. Some dicks where driving way to fast (anyone know the dick in the Zuk with the turbo - cos mate we know it sneezes no need to show off).

Viewing areas could of been improved with bigger mounds.
As for recovies we seen some that where just terrible and took to long. Some would have been easier to fix the car where it was and let them finish (eg tie rods easy to fix if theres a spare handy).
I agree the excavators where good, But there was some instances where if they put abit of winch pressure on the rear of the vehicle it would have reversed out (ie fire truck on Mini wiriba). Also heard that the chains where going to be put onto incorrect recovery points ie hydro steering bits aint the right spot.
But the excavators was the best thing to get stuff ups like Cheezy's off the track (he killed the whole rearend).
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....

yeah what happened???

I'd say he didn't try the big tyres for the same reason as the mog, to get the maximum points.
The crowd did boo him hard though. But i'd have to assume they didn't see the reason he limped accross the line. When he launched out of the last pit, he came down hard on the big log and snapped his front right trailing arm (or what ever it's called on a custom rig), meaning there was nothing left apart from the ram holding the diff there....
So you could imagine what would have happened to the truck if he tried to mount that huge tyre/s......

I'm intruiged as to the impression i get of peoples opinion of Antunec, is he an Outerlimits member?

Yep they are all volunteers, dont get paid, use all thier own recovery gear and trucks and have to get there first in the morning and leave last in the evening. Personally I think its a thankless job especially when they get people yelling abuse at them from the sidelines and as Grimbo said they are trying to do it without further damaging the vehicles, a lot of the ones that got recovered were damaged and not just stuck.

And before anyone asks I'm not on the recovery team.

Cheers

Awesome event.

Few gripes there...

Mud run - didnt start til nearly an hour after the stated time in the booklet... crowd got really rowdy bec of the delay...

Whilst recovery was being done... the starting official didnt call and brief the next truck until the recovery was done :? bit retarded in my opinion as it was a huge delay as each briefing took nearly ten minutes where it could have been done beforehand or done while the recovery was being done...

Oh... and poor commentating on the mud run.. didnt have a clue what was going on... and then the following day on the rocky horror.. we have this huge commentating stand there and it was loud as... why wasnt it there for the mud run... if so.. it was wayyy too quiet..etc...

If people were whinging about the garbage left behind on the mud run... maybe some more large flip bins would have been handy.. didnt see enough in my opinion.

Overall.. it was an awesome event,, crowd/yobos were awesome,, had a ball and will go again :D :D :D

Noticed the lack of bins too. When you entered you were given a large plastic bag, but this was not much use when you were actually walking between tracks or trying to see round the fluro jackets and actually watch or film a truck driving. Big congrats to all competitors, was excellent to watch. I was in the same boat as DRS too, we arrived ahead of a mate that didnt have a ticket, yet by the time we got in with pre-paid tickets he already had his tent and stuff out and had a beer in his hand. All the talk of gettin a pre-paid ticket making it easier, and we had to wait for almost 50min to get in.
And, the most important think from the weekend - If Mick (de-lux) asks you if you want to see his belt buckle, say NO!
