Under Tray Water Tanks

what do you ppl use for under tray water tanks? i wanna make something myself as for i dont really wanna spend upwards of $200 ona newie already made. If anyones got any ideas on designs let us know aye Thanks

Mate, I use a camel tank, there are two options that I sell, both do not need stone gaurds, and have flanges moulded in them for fitting, so do not need brackets like caravan type tanks. they are also baffled.

the options are 65ltr and 75ltr and both retail at $200.00 inc gst. the smaller one fits the easiest, whare are you and i will get a delivery price. they are much cheaper than than a custom aloy or SS one in hassle alone and will be as cheap as getting ther materials.

where are you?

i gota 66l poly tank from TJM coopers Plains for $140. has moulded flanges for mounting and inlet/outlet/vent. from memory its 600x780x200mm. they have a range of sizes and were the cheapest i could find.

if u are considering making one out of pvc stormpipe, dont. its been discussed on here before about how they leach carcinogenic substances into the water. not good.

im from cairns mate, true so you rekon those pvc pipe ones are no good aye. Well that knocked that idea out of the air :( lol

unless its food grade poly, it will leach crap in

caravan joint opposite arb southside....

plastic caravan tank about 60 bucks....
hose and fittings/tap about 40 bucks....

worked for me

I strapped a $10 25 litre square plastic drum under the tray on it's side with a tap in the bung hole, has a 1/16th hole in the lid, and I just fill it to the lidhole with the hose.

I only use it to wash hands and cook sometimes, usually take a frozen spring water bottle in the esky for drinking. The small tap is great for keeping it from emptying too fast.

Unfortunately it's location under the back corner seems to encourage to close proximity to impacts to often, time for a new one after a 2nd silastic repair on the bottom corner.

i had a mate make me one out of alloy, it holds 180 L, i also run a glinde hot water off it

I plan to use a stainless steel automotive gas tank under my tray back, $10 from the wreckers. I plan to run a regulated air line to the tank to provide pressurised water through a ball valve. They are reasonably light, easy to mount, cheap as hell and pretty much indestructable stone wise. My only concern is that it may take a while to get that gas smell out of it, but I will mainly use it for washing etc. Will have to see how it goes.

have you thought of useing a S/S beer keg, 50l i think, heaps of them about :roll:

Actually, make mine a rum and coke keg please

Would be quite easy to get a series of 10lt water drums and turn them into a tank... probably cost you less than $100 inc fittings... use your imagination

I just scroed this tank here of my mate for $10!!! its gotta couple of cracks in it but ill just ally mig them up n shell be fine.

mate in Cairns there sholud be a caravan repairer, go and have a look at them and see what they have or go to WWW.camec.com.au and go to plumbing section and you will see about 6 or 8 different tanks they make, range from about $80 upwards. just needs the mounts to secure them, they have breathers already in place as well. you can get lockable filler caps and all you need from them.
