generally, if it weighs more than my zuk i wont 'snatch' it as they tend to just stretch and yoink the zuk backwards rather than pull the biggin' out...
however, using a good rope and keeping tension on it while the driver of the big POS attempts to drive out seems to work 90% of the time... and if it fails its generally driver error, and easily corrected.
Using this method i have succesfully pulled out a Pajero and a Patrol on the beach in lancelin (with some digging under their tyres) and helped a hilux or 2 get out of tricky situations (bad side slopes etc).
Just remember when it comes to a rescue - YOU are the one who counts most - if theres any doubt about the attempt abort it at all costs. better to leave the bastard stranded and knw you tried than break ur own car and be stranded with him! eheh plus you can always drive off and send help.

Cool.
Just weighing up if I actually need a winch or not - most of the wheeling I will do will be with a mate and his crappy sierra
Chances are I will get bogged cause its a nissan, and he won't be able to pull me out cause he's driving a gutless 1.3L
Cheer's for the replies fellas - good to know the little sierra isn't totally a hairdressers car

Layto....
ditto this, same 60.. detect a theme??? birlo was bogged both diffs, i reversed to 'bout a metre from the 60 and gunned it... snapped sideways when reached the end of the strap... had to do it a few times, but got him out eventually.

hey the vitara's have 1.6L's - gotta make a big difference in torque over the little 1.3L , thats like 20% more displacement
its not so much the engine, as i can sit there spinning the wheels with the strap fully extended, its more the weight of the vehicle.
900kg suzuki ---------<-----------<---------------< 3tonne pootrol/cruiser

What engine is in your beast?
then it was only a std 1.3. they were only just stuck on really slippery mud like clay, only needed a pull to get the going again. i've pulled the D90 out quiet a few times but its often need a lot of digging around it to make it move. it all depends how stuck they are, if they're bogged to the chassis then the poor little zook doesn't have much of a chance at all.

Damn nissans and toyotas getting stuck.
cheers
try the slow method first
thou it ususlly takes a bit of momentum to do anything

i've always only started out with a slow pull and the a couple more harder ones if that doesn't work. if they're still stuck then i give then a shovel and tell them to start digging, then try again after some of the dirt/mud is cleared away. while they're digging i then proceed to drive around them through every bit of mud i can find to show them why a suzuki so much better i've only ever gotten stuck once while doing this and then i wasn't very popular.
foad wrote:Haha that's classic if you actually do drive around them
I guess it still comes down to lack of suzi weight, not being able to slingshot the other car.
yeah my mates hate me for it. but i got stuck in a creek crossing next to DFND90 once, both of us were stuck next to each other facing oposite directions. we eventually dug and pushed the zook out then dug and snatched the landy out. but it was dark defore we got out. its all good fun.
haha it was hung up on the tie rod
thou had to snatch from his bullbar
haha did he cop shit for gettin pulled out by a car half its weight

cost
:- 1.5 hours
1 x brokern shovel
1 x suzi rear tail shaft collasped after got out
method depends what and how deep?
Try is slow from 2 metres of slack , if no go give it a bit, other wise hand em over a shovel.
then try again .

me and my brother (bru21) were motorbike riding, i was on my cr500 and he was on his wr400, he got stuck in some clay, we tried to dig it out and ride it out but it was useless, he got his gq, then it didnt have the ls1, but it took a fair go to get it out, you could see the front forks flexing. but cr500's just dont get stuck
Cheers.

I've pulled out 4 runners and ford raiders in mine, both around 1.6 1.7 tonne. Usually when someones bogged all it takes is that little bit of extra forward force to get em out. However sometimes they're not going anywhere. I'll never forget this one time in my suzi I was a little bit stuck spinning my wheels, and me and the passenger started rocking backwards and forwards in the car, and then the tyres started to take and the car began to move. Obviously it was nearly at the point of taking but it's just hilarious to think about how light these cars are. Another time after bottoming out over a little hill, I started the car left in 4 low, first gear let the wheels just spin, then standing outside the car with one foot on the throttle I rocked it off. Ha Ha, best thing.
