Post by Paul U »

I have just changed the distributer cap and leads over on l28 mq I also cleaned points and rotor cap. now it doesnt work.
I was wondering if I mixed up the fireing order? it does seem to have spark! does anyone know the order and how to work out number one?

I'm lost when it comes to anything older than a GQ :D Give me the old 4.2 petrol or diesel anyday.

Wait a short time until screwy or someone like him see this thread and you'll have your answer in a flash ;)
Cheers

If it hasn't got spark it wont be the firing order , probably need to reset the points or could have some rubbish in between contacts on points. The firing order is 1 5 3 6 2 4 . To find No1 turn motor over with some paper in No1 plug hole when it blows out line up timing mark to TDC & that will be No1 firing .

Had the same thing on my L28, almost drove me mental, ended up being points gap. I set them to specs but would not work. Then I closed them almost completely and she fired right up. Good luck.

ok got it running the leads were one space out but she still wont idle, have had new carb for 1 month and started not idling after two weeks of rain then when it cleared up it idled again but rain came back and no idle; so I have replaced the leads and cap and cleaned points etc.
Any Ideas

I'd check your fuel filter for water. Check if the fuel filler is seling properly. Put a bottle of Metho in the fuel tank & go for a drive . You probably have water in carby.
