How much drop on front crossmember for SAS with Histeer?

Post by ausyota »

How much will I have to drop the front crossmember when I chuck my SAS in the lux with Gonads made (ABT/M+M eng) Hi steer?
Will I get away with a 1 or 1.5" drop instead of the standard issue 2 inch dropped crossmember?

Am trying to not lift the lux too high!
I allready have a 40mm body lift which has to stay as I have lifted the drivetrain 40mm.
Also the bigest tyres I plan to run are 36s so with the front diff moved forward a bit I shouldnt need much lift.

In WA the max lift with engineers aproval and lanechage test etc is 6" - Including lift from bigger tyres!!!

So with 35s and nearly 2" BL I will be getting close with springs and dropped crossmember!

You could probably get away without a drop cross member, but may have to limit up travel so nothing rubs.

Have you got approval for the hysteer or the lift?? I have been waiting 10 week so far, the DPI are very slow. I would get pre-approval before even buying anthing because things may be changing again. The current regulations of 6" max lift is only in draft format and my change when it is finally released

I havnt got pre-approval yet :?
I have been told they havnt been pre-aproving lately anyway (as you have found out).
I am thinking of just saying fark it and just doing the mods (to a high standard) and just worrying about all the legal sh!t later.

I know its probably not the smartest thing but Im sick of all the crap.

Yea things really suck in WA. I think as long as you do things to a high standard you should be alright. Just don't get in a car acident or you will be fcuked  No insurance!

I know, that is the only worry. Well that and the local cops down here whos favorite passtime is stickering.

Well I probably allready have no insurance anyway with 33s, 40mm body lift, extended rear shackles, drivetrain lift, modified shockie mountings, etc etc.

Yer, but isnt x/o when the tie rod stays beneath the leaf pack?

Still breeds the same result wether the draglink is below or above the springs, just that one is better protected than the other. They are both X-over by rights, but that photo is high-steer.

Guts runs an 80 series pitman arm of the box and seems to not have any drama whatsoever with it hitting the spring.

doesnt matter really.. soon as u go to left to right action steering rather than push pull it becomes cross over,
plain cross over using the double arm on the passanger side keeps the tierod in the stock position,
or if u move them above the springs its highsteer cross over :)
