Time for a new thread on this as all the older ones have no pics..
I'm about to do a virtual lift on my zook, and to those who have done it I am wondering about a few things.
1. How much did you raise the guard?
2. Which method did you find easiest to cut the body?
Cutting it into tabs and folding them up,
Cutting the inside panel shorter than the outside panel and folding the outer panel in and over,
or just cutting the whole lot off?
3. When the guard mount/base is tack-welded back on, is there any gap between the guard and the panel? If so, what did you use to fill it? A strip of rubber perhaps?
4. How did you go about tidying the job up under the arches? Did you use a sealant etc?
5. Got any detailed pics?

Gone drag racing......
I used a bare hacksaw blade and cloth to cut strips in the curved part of inner guard. lots of pop rivets and tar paint to hide the mess. for head light bucket, I removed metal and replaced with rubber sheet hidden with more tar....welding be much neater, but me dont have one.

I did the cut and weld/grind and paint thing, but now I wish thad I'd had saved my time and just did the 'cut tabs & fold/ cover it up with spray deadener' deal.

Respect Rhett, that's acoolooking car, but I think many of these "virtual lifts" are missing the point.
The restriction on lift vs tyre size on a sierra is the headlight bucket and the firewall. If you move rhett's tyre up on compression, it will hit both the firewall and the headlight bucket before it gets within a bulls roar of the top of the guard.
IMHO the biggest reason to lift the wheelarch on a sierra is to allow you to open the front and back of the guard up and still have a proportional looking wheelarch.
Once this is done, it is just possible to get he tyre to brush the top of the stock wheelarch opening and not jam up on the firewall, but this is with RUF, about 50mm out of the firewall and cut right up into the back of the headlight bucket, 2" bumpstop spacers, and a 2" BL, running a 35.
The headlight bucket problem is why so many sierras have tube front ends.

the end closest to the sills i left at stock height so on the front i only lifted the front of the flair and the rear just lifted the rear ill post a pic so u get what i mean
also with the diffs pushed out that far its harder to see it with the flairs angled the way i did it
you will notice the amount of room i have at the firewall with a 37" tire yet the front diff dosent look way out infront of the wheel well

alright, so from what i have gathered, a virtual lift is where u bash/mould arches higher up body so that you have extra room to clear for articulation and larger tyres, instead of a body or spring lift.
