MQ rear diff

Post by Hoppy11 »

Just wondering how I can tell which diff my MQ wagon has, c200, h233b or the h260, just trying to find out the ratio.

ozy1 told me the best way to find the ratio is to take off the inspection plate on the front diff and read the ratio off the crown wheel ?

c200's are the front diffs
all MQ/MK Patrols share the same front setup

H233b's are in all Patrol as well and are the standard rear diff but with different ratio's 4.1 in the P40, 4.3 in the SD33T and 4.6 in the rest

H260 was the larger type diff found in the late SD33T Utes. These had the 4.8 ratio's in them.....Very hard to find and unless you have a ute I doubt you have this one

So your front will be c200 and your rear will be h233b

so if all front diffs are the C200, are there different ratios in the C200 or are they all the same ratio? how does this work?

cheers

ALL MQ/MK diffs are C200 diffs.

They came out with 4.1 , 4.3 , 4.6 to 1 ratios.....

The 4.1s are unlikely as very uncommon.....

But ALL L28 petrol patrols came out with 4.625 to 1 ratio diffs.

4.3s were in some diesels but commonly in SD33 Turbo MKs and patrols fitted with P40 motors ( uncommon ).

4.6 was the most common ratio in SD33 non turbo also.

H233B is the rear diff on ALL MQ / MK wagons, as JTRAF said, H260 was only in the very late model MK utes and early GQ utes.....

Wat motor have u got in your wagon???

IF petrol, will be 4.625:1 ratio diffs, H233B rear and C200 front.

IF diesel or Turbo deisel, will be either 4.6 or 4.3 to 1....

also is it MK or MQ?

Thanks for the info, it's a83 MQ with the SD33, I've been told that some models actually came out with c200 diffs in the rear aswell as the front.

incorrect information.

NO MQ and MK Patrols came out with C200 in the rear.

The older G60 Patrol had C200 rear, but not MQ / MK.

Yours WILL have C200 front and H233B rear. 100 % definatly.

Yours will almost definatly have 4.625:1 diffs in it as well.

thanks again screwy, the info came from the gregory's manual, it says that the C200 can be fitted to the front and rear, and the H233B and the H260 CAN ONLY Be FITTED TO THE REAR, so i'd say your on the money

so are the casing different for each? ie. I have a 4.3 ratio LSD in mine but was thinking of changing to a 4.6 ratio open center so I can eventually install one of those Lokka's. Would I need to replace the entire axle or can I just swap the diff centre?

just get yourself a 4.6 ring and pinion and keep the LSD as they are interchangable........

I have a mate selling front and rear diffs complete with 4.6 for $500 neg if you are interested.

You are absolutely incorrect Jeffricles, There were several C200 rears, but they did not release them in australia, so, i am infact here and proven you wrong, you said nothing about Australia only................................

Lets try Hard top in P40, SD33, and L28, with C200 front and rear...................and also High roof hard top with P40 and SD33 C200 front and rear,
read your manual Jeffricles

Where can I get a lokka for mine? I also have a 4.625:1 ratio. The front diff is out of a Mq.

If it is a C200 it will have the cast centre with the removable inspection plate.

Maybe the wreckers just got it wrong.

I'll get under there when it's not raining and have a look.

No kidding, it will have the axle code. HG## is H233, CA## is C200. I forget what the H260 is, but by elimination it can be determined.
The ## portion approximates the ratio, put a decimal point between the digits.
In search of an MQ (offset) H233b rear, housing only preferred, plus a complete GQ or GU front (4.6 ratio ideal) to be shipped to the US. Cheap! Email/PM if you can help.

A C200 diff is a "salisbury" style diff meaning there is a cover plate and the center is built into the housing whereas H260 and H233b are a "banjo" style and the center comes out in one piece....AFAIK

Nope....

I have an 83 Patrol with a C200 LSD in the rear. But it is a German Patrol not an Aussie Patrol.

Diffs in the G60's are C216 (front & rear) and the HD H260 option in rear.

There was a full floating rear diff option available in the H233. It can be found in Utes and Van models.
