my standard one is a bit old for my GQ, and got the steering wheel wobble

I use 2 crosscountry ones and even with the front wheels being out of balance by up to 100g, there is no steering wobble/shutter etc... that you can feel. Just choose carefully with the second one...
With brand there all much the much ,at the end of the day it's just how fancy you want it to LOOK .EFS is very good, reasonable priced and a comes witha good warranty

My GQ had the shakes before christmass so i replaced the steering
skock`y [4WAY RETURN TO CENTRE] It still had the shakes so
I than replaced the drag link with a bling bling chrome`molly unit
And at the same time replaced the bush`s on the panhard rod
problem solved forget the steering shocky and spend your money on bush`s

GQ with big nuts
The best steering damper for a GQ is a Bilstein Range Rover steering damper. It has got to be worth the bit extra cost. Even better get a 2nd steering damper as Mavdog said.

At BBMotorsport we have sold literally hundreds of the Tough Dog RTC Dampers, and have never had a bad report from a customer. That says something! I had one fitted to my 45 series, and even with 38's, no complaints. We dont only sell 4 Way, just in case you think I'm being biased, we deal with Bilstein, Rancho, OME, and any other brand you care to name. In my opinion you cannot go wrong with the Tough Dog damper. Hope that helps.

Well heres your first Bad report for 4-ways. Fitted one to my zook and it feels less effective than the 15 year old standard one. Looks real good though, very bling.
Now Im not saying its rubbish, just that its nothing special. And I havent noticed that it helps in returning the steering to centre.

Go the Pro comp if you have an adjustable bracket on your steering or pahnard.
I took my bracket of to give to a customer "Matty B" as his did not arrive in time so I had no steering dampner, drove a round and the death wobbles were out of control. Bracket came in so I bolted my Pro comp back up and perfect.
Mind you my steering dampner is over a year old and has suffered some serious high speed offroading and is still going strong.

Absolutely stuffed my 4way on a tree stump a few years ago and chucked in an OME.
Big mistake!
The 4way feels so much better, especially when your castor is out!
The OME didn't feel much different from not having one fitted at all!
The 4way has an exposed shaft though, which makes it a bit more vulnerable.

The most effective steering damper is not really a damper at all, but a hydraulic cylinder mounted between the axle and the tie rod, and connected to the power stearing gear. Assuming there is power stearing in the first place. The size should be about the same as the OEM damper.
This setup takes the stearing strain off the frame, (power stearing is strong enough to brake your frame if you twist the wheel with the tyres in deep ruts), and the stearing will be so light as to be one fingered at standstill, even with 44" tyres. However, you lose some roadfeel with the setup and that may take some time to get used to. This kind of setup is standard practice on most big wheeled rigs in Iceland.
