winch ropes !

Post by familybus »

ok i know ill get in the poo cause theres alot of info on here somewhere about types of rope and stuff but ill ask it straight down the barrel anyway!
i have a Warn M8000 and need to get some winch rope tp replace the shity stuff that came off the spool!
im thinkin 5/16 x 125mt !
1) will this size fit and be apropriate?
2) where is the best place to buy it from?
3) how much will it cost me?
4) does anyone have the same size Warn winch already fitted? if so with what size and length?
thanks guys and sorry for asking this again but someone might have some new info or new prices or suplier.

Suggest calling, as they don't seem to have grasped the concept of replying to emails yet.

I think you mean 5/16" x 125 feet, not metres.

A Warn m8000 takes 8mm cable and about 35 meters on the spool.

Nothing, the Rockstomper rope is half the price for twice the quality.

The main feature of the Rockstomper rope I like is that is uses a thimble for the hook end to distribute the strain evenly over the loop. Without a thimble all the strain on the hook is contained on a very small area.

forget about arb and 4x4 shops dude.. they will charge u a fortune for something u can buy from a wire rope place for less than a third of the price. forgot the name of the place but they are located in toongabbie. bought rated cable for bout 1.30 a metre...warn wants over 300 dollars for 28 mtres. for 60 odd bucks i got cable, hook, thimble and the end fitting that holds the cable to the winch drum.

guess its to hard for some to buy a length of rope and put thier own splice and thimble on the end

Try somewhere like Bullivants chain supplies they have all the gear you want and cheaper than the 4 wheel drive places.

As far as I can make out... the concensus now is that the thimble is no good... Most now run without one.. only a cordura sleeve over the end splice.. When I ordered mine this is how it came... I sent an email enquiring about the missing thimble and this is what they said..

Mate, that's super cheap. Try hard to remember the name if you can. If it's rated and suitable there would be more than a few people here interested.

I would like to know more about this. From an engineering perspective the thimble is the way to go as it distributes the load evenly on the loop. What was their reason for not fitting a thimble?

my reply from them was that over time the thimble splits and damages the rope... he also said most EUROC guys dont run the timble anymore for this reason

I'm with Robbie.

I sent this dude two emails, maybe if three (or more) of us group up on him he might figure out what the reply button is?

Anyone else keen? Familybus, here's your chance to get some OS cheap price lovin'!

Save on freight too, although if you order a large quantity of the stuff we are more likely to get boned on GST. I don't think we have duty anymore, Free Trade Agreement and all.....

If any one wants winch rope, PM me the details of size etc, or send me an email and I will send you a spec sheet and prices. I normally sell unspliced and in 50m lengthns in either double braid(poly outer for protection) and single braid (straight dyneema / plasma for size) splicing can be arranged for additional cost and rope is ex sydney cash before I send it.

I have 10mm double braid in stock, and other sizes generally 2 - 3 days to me and a couple of weeks for splicing (rope people are slow)
If the above post did not offend you in any way please PM me so I can try harder!!

I will price up 3 ropes from rockstomper or ok offroad..

check out rockstomper.com / okoffroad.com and tell me what rope you are after, from there, I will email scott @ rockstomper and the dude at okoffroad for their best prices..

then I will barter, cause there is nothing better than having 2 competitors wanting a sale..
