info about fitting 2.4 turbo into yn65 lux

Post by runnin4life »

hi all
my brother has a yn65 lux
his motor is buggered its a 3y (2.0 petrol) 5 speed

he is looking at buying a half cut with a 2L turbo um im not sure it thats the correct number but its a 2.4 turbo deisel 4 speed auto with about 120K on it
its worth $2500
not sure what year model it is

is this a good price

also he was wondering will he have any problems fitting it in will he need custom mounts

i was also think would the auto fit with out a body lift

um also is there any build ups that might be help full

3y swap over

Post by toysuzi »

hello zukin4life
hows it going ??

you can buy the (engine) chassis mounts from toyota
from memery I payed around $35.00 each side

i converted a 3y over to 3L (2.8L)
it wasnt an import though (non efi)
all the wiring was an eazy mod to fit onto the diesel
bellhousing just use a 2.4 diesel (had it already)

the only thing i didnt do was the glow pugs

i cannot tell you what the auto would fit like but id assume all toyota hilux-4runners use the same gearbox tunnels for
5speed OR auto
just measure your auto width & compare to the 5speed

but if you dont end up going auto
let me know i may do you a swap for a 5speed
but ull have to check if the crank bolt pattern is the same

$2500 sounds like a good price for the front cut 2LT
you will need to fit a ausi injector pump
or get an auto-elec to do the wire harness swap over

cheers

yer the local mechanic said he can do it just supply the engine and box

did the 2.4 turbo deisel only come in the gen 2 lux or did it also come in the gen 3 which would be a 90 model or around that right

also will he need to get it engineered

i dont think any hilux come out turbo
untill 1999 or later

the bundy with the 2l-t come out in 1986-to-91

you may get away without engineers report
i didnt have to engineer my old lux
but mine was diesel to start with
i fitterd a used factory (2l-t) turbo kit onto my 2L $400.00
but check with your insurance company 1st

and you will need a blue slip for the new engine (number)

if it turns out to be a diffrent model half cut it should still fit ?? and how hard would it be to but the later model dash in???

he just wants to use as much of the half cut as possible so he doesnt loose out when he goes to sell all the left overs

engine swap

Post by toysuzi »

yeah wouldnt matter what year model it is
will still be the same to fit

the only thing that would change would be the mechanical fuel injetion & the computer control injection
just more work to get it wire in

the import dash should bolt in without to much work as long as its the same vintage as you truck 1984 to 1989 etc the 1990 + model dash maybe more work to fit

Once you tell people that the donor is a surf, you might find the prices go up. Had the same problem when I needed parts for my surf until I said it was for an ln106 hilux. a lot of places didn't want to help me cause it was an import....
