I'm going to repower my 4Runner with a 1UZ-FE. Unfortunately it'll mean putting off the SAS for a while but you can't have everything (in one hit.)

I'm curious if anyone can recommend any companies with experience in the actual fitment and fabrication of mounts etc in the Sydney area that don't overcharge?

I'm going to remove the old engine etc myself, i'll just need someone to drop in the new one, and i'll probably need engineering help too.

I know a shop that charged 18k for a V6 commo conversion to a lux and the customer supplied the motor box and adapter kit. Won't say what shop though. But watch out.

... can tell of a similar nightmare few yrs back on melb list... this dude had a VS V6 Commodore put in a 4skinner, they fucked it up that much, he couldnt fit a fan, or thermo fan between the rad and the donk! $13k last time I spoke to him, and it was still not fixed.



Also what part of Shitney are you in, that would help

Well i'm way west, near Penrith, but willing to travel.

I'm going to do most of it myself, I just have no experience and not going to try on such a big job when it comes to fitting it, and fab'ing the mouints etc.
I wouldn't dream of getting one shop to do the lot. I know Twisty got away with his 1UZ conversion for about $5-6k all up into his identical truck. He's in Bris though, so i can't use the same mobs...

I haven't spoken to them before, but i had heard they are trigger happy when it comes to typing in the bill. Or is that just hear-say?

Quick Fit Motorsport at hornsby have done around 10,000 of these conversions not only in 4wd hiluxs but 2wd as well, plus they have fitted 1uz's to other model cars as well, including a few commodores (why? i dont know).

They also helped me out alot with the wiring for a 20v conversion i did about 4 years ago into a corolla. Very proffesional and never gave me any dramas. For the price they charged they did a great job, cosidering both BD4'S (*cough* rip-off *cough*) and Croydon wanted to charge me double for the excact same job.

Id give them a call, especially if your up this way.

there is a shop in yennora (guildford/fairfield area) that can do anything u like and will do a bloody good job. the dude that owns it is one man band and he is from the old school of fabbing and custom work. was one of the original wild bunch drag racers and mechanics. now just does mechanical and engine building/ swaps etc for rods and street cars. he has done work for me previously and id highly recommend him for both price and sheer quality of work. his name is smiley. dunno why, the basterd never smiles. give him a buzz.. smiley power..0404431625

this is one of the reasons why I would like to convert my 40 to V8 but dont trust any of the shops in sydney to do it.....You want a good job done first time with a reasonable quote to do it...not end up with horror stories and bitterness to follow for a long time....

Try emailing QuickFit Motorsport mentioned above. I did after Gribble sugested them, and they wrote back the next day. He sent me an extremely handy Excel file that lists everything you could ever need for them to help. Just put an x in the boxes you want done, and it adds up a quote for you!

is your V6 dead Bryan? if not id go the SAS first. if it is dead i guess you dont have a choice. by the way my front IFS air locker is now for sale

Actually, the reason I chose the conversion first is because it's not dead. You see if I do it now, the V6 in mine is comfortably worth over $3k with everything on it. If I wait till it dies, I won't be able to sell it for peanuts and it will cost me thousands more in the long run...........
If I can sell the V6, and get away with the conversion for 5-6k, you acn see it's not going to be a very expensive swap at all...
