GQ clutch making funny noises.

Post by hottiemonster »

i noticed today after the car wash that when i push the clutch in only slightly there is a ringing noise and when it is all the way in, it sounds like a grinding/airy noise.

is it fubar? any suggestions?

thanks

No but I had the same dramas with the 5spd & V8 conversion in my MQ.

I spen a few hours ( after I pulled the V8 out :bad-words: ) and sealed up the bellhousing so shyte couldnt get in there in the first place..... a dab of silicone here and a dab there...... sweet !

I still get "some" water in the bellhousing but its such a minor amount it no-longer effects the clutch or thrust bearing anymore.

My drama started after a 5' deep river xing .....
drove another 50 metres and killed the motor, set up camp and stayed for the w/end without restarting the rig....
The water in the bellhousing "rusted" ( for want of a better word) the clutch plate to the flywheel and pressure plate....it was as if the clucth had seized rock solid !...... after I got it started and moving ( tow start) I pulled it into neutral and then worked the throttle hard.....on the power /off the power till it free'd up again.... then I pushed the clutch in and the thrust bearing howled like a virgin in a whore house..... it too had rusted up while sitting for the 2 days.
The front gearbox shaft was also gritty from rust and its still a little rough in its movement when using the clutch..... a "gritty feel" when ya push the pedal in every time to this day !

well i dropped the car off at the mechanics just then to have a look. i havent got the equipment at home to do it myself.

after speaking to people on here and his opinion, its most likely the thrust bearing. the car should be ready on wendesday.

also the guy said that the spivot? bearing is a good thing to get done too while the g/box is out?

i told him that if the clutch is worn down, that i want a new one in becasue it means less work to do later, so after he pullings the g/box out, i will then know what will be done to the car.

thanks guys for the input.

it definatly sounds like a throwout bearing. and spigot bearing wouldnt be a bad idea to replace that either. im dredding the day mine needs to be done. there a huge box (td42). i did a clutch on an 8 last weeka nd that was bad enough. but i spose if we want to play these games we just have to wear the concequences

well called the mechanic today, the thrust bearing is completely fubar and same as the clutch.

geting a daiken clutch fitted, machining the flywheel, new rubber boot on clutch fork.

lots of $$$

now its time to stay outta the bogs  way to expensive.

what are they daiken clutches like? and will they be allright for my application?

thanks

my clutch ( GQ SWB TB42 ) makes are very slight rubbing sort of groaning sound when the motor is cold of a morning, when the clutch is in.... put in neutral no dramas... and if i push the clutch down a few times it stops...

doesnt do it wen cold....

u reckon its thrust bearing also??

Sprigot bearing. The shaft goes from gearbox, splined through clutch plate, thrust bearing, and the end of the shaft goes to the sprigot bearing at the back the engine.

Thrust bearing is usually noiser when clutch in engaged, or when it you just start to put clutch in. If you slowly move clutch in and out, you should hear the noise change.
