New TJM Pro Locker...

Post by grazza »

Noticed that TJM have released a locker called Pro Locker, as advertised on Page 17 of 4x4 magazine.

"locks the planetary gears using compressed air"

I wander if its a re-badged ARB? Does not look like it...

Only for Toyota's right now. Cant find any other info on it yet...

Can't see that happening ARB make their own so there is no way they would then on sell then to a competitor to sell as their own

The story i heard is that either TJM was bought out by another company that ownes a few machine shops down south. Or TJM now owns a copupe of machine shops down south. Either way these shops have repared a few ARB's in their time and figured that they can build a better locker that would avoid all the problems that tey've had to repair in the past.

Apparently Kym Boltons GU has them.....well his rig was painted in the TJM colours and he's supporting the pro locker logos.

They will only do the most recent popular 4WD's because they figure only small demands.

Either way a pit of compitition may reduce the prive of either!!!

that what ive heard from one of the folks at the tjm store, could of just been sales pitch.
i don't need no stinking quote for my sig. line!

If Kym Boltons GU is runnign they must be a special - they only mention availability for Toyotas in their advert.

It would be mad to not bring them out for GQ/GU's

Judging by my last trip to Rover Park, Nissans far outnumbered the Toyotas.

you would hope, but by the opening price of the TJM, you would think not.
Hope they dont drop, I only had my ARBs a few weeks :(

agree, the number of GQs getting modded up ( like mine) due to the price in comparo is big, and they would have to have them on the way surely

There is a dude on this board that makes air operated lockers as well... He is in QLD somewhere at the moment he only makes tojo stuff I wanted to trial his nissan gear but I live too far away..

I hate only have one option for a selectable locker for the front of my GQ. I hate doing what everyone else does :x I like to be a little different, I am a little different... hahaha. I put a rear factory locker in and want a selectable alternative to the arb. For a better price and in addition to that I want it to be a better product...

Price wars would be cool... But I assume there are only so many way you can make air operated lockers ???

My local TJM store was only able to tell me they were 1195, and due for release in about 6 weeks with models for hilux and 100 series first off the ranks. They had no more info or brochures and couldn't tell me much more.

JeremyBubbles, I remember that thread, will try to find it...

He never had any pics, or figures to back up his claims, also couldn't get his web site up again. He made big claims, and didn't back them up...

edit, but I'm still keen to see how the TJM locker goes

Yeah thats true, but maybe he didnt have a clue how to post the pics up? not like it hasnt happened before. I totally agree you need to back your claims up with something for people to see though. Maybe he was one of these people that are geniuses when it comes to say mechanics, but completely clueless with computers. Did anyone go and check out his demo rigs?

This is interesting, i am sure ARB would like to know that TJM are saying that "ITs the Same, except for the solinoid" :?: :?: :?: :?:

I doubt very much that it would be "the same".

Ruff told me he saw one at the brissie 4wd show, his impressions were that it looked and resembled nothing like an ARB Air locker. I am sure he will correct me if i am mistaken and also describe what he saw!

I think the only thing thats the "SAME" as the ARB is that its air operated.

What sort of warantee do they offer on it???

No. That just makes no sense.

Solenoid? Does he mean actuator?

Please explain?

Maybe it is like a Maxi Drive for rangies.. YOu get a big fat actuator that sits on the outside of yo diff just waitin to be banged by something - just like my factory rear locker

Either way arb have a little bit of a monopoly going on so maybe price drops that see the unit sell for around $800 would be nice...
