I assume you adjusted the crownwheel in to mesh properly with the pinion by adjusting the bearing screw cap things?

Does the crown wheel actually go into the centre section. What i meen is that if its 20mm out then does it still go threw the grove cut in the casting??

I am certain that all centres from 79 or 80 are pretty well the same. LSD or open doesn't really matter.

Do the gears that came off the LSD fit into the other centre???

Is it a 4.8 housing? They are different from 4.3's.

Hang on, maybe you have a high pinion and a low pinion centre???????

As far as 4.88 and 4.3's go, i am sure i have used the same carier for both, but it has been a while since i have done anything with hilux gear!

The way my local diff rebuilder said it works is all the carriers are identical. BUT, because 4.8's and 5.2's require a smaller drive wheel to get the desired ratio (simple physics) it needs to be closer to the crown wheel. So the 4.8 housings have the pinion shaft offset closer to the crown.

You either need the 4.8 housing or a spacer. Id find a housing.

i found that ther earlier generation 4.8's have a thinner crown wheel when compared to the later 4.8's. so if you are using the older crown in a newer housing thisa may have a problem. i had them laying side by side so i definately know there is a difference
