hey I am after some checkerplate to put in the boot of the fourby as the carpet is going to shit. Just wondering where you can get it, how much and what you use to cut the stuff. I want it as thin as possible and also is it easy to bend

Any aluminium dealer / fabricator could help you out. Ally cut easily with a jig saw and doesn't need any finishing just leave it natural. 3mm will be strong and light

If it's just going on the floor of your boot then just get 1.5mm. 3mm is overkill for that application. Also remember to file the edges after you use the jig saw.

It's a bit cut throat so ask around a few places and don't forget places like bunnings. You'll be suprised at the prices you'll find. The local alloy distributors up here have the same price no matter whether your a tradie or a normal customer so other places get thier alloy from elswhere and are sometimes cheaper.

Bunnings seems the same price as the local capral dealer.

1200 x 1200 sheet at bunnings from memory.

If you end up getting it from an ali place, give them your measurements and get them to guillotine it to size, much neater and straighter than a jig saw.

Any tool box or roll/nudge bar manufacture will have it, they normally stock 2400x1200 sheets. Its a little expensive but not over board in cost.

Sounds about right, it's not cheap because it's shiney

I paid $500 for a 3600x1200x5mm sheet when I used to work at a sheetmetal place.
BTW, it doesn't do the knees or bare feet real good as flooring and can be a pain when sliding stuff around the floor.

Clark Rubber sell rolls of checkerplate rubber sheeting - looks just like steel/ally checker plate except its black.

Am thinking of using it on my custom ute tray, over a ply base.

the rolls of rubber checker plate are good for interiors but not choise on exterior paneling or trays etc....
eventually will peel off and glue will lose grip, and will tear....

You can sometimes get luck at metal recyclers, I got a piece a few years ago 1000x1500x5 for $40, and another piece of 2mm thick stuff I used for guards for $7. Only smaller pieces though.

okies bunnings has small sheets about 600 x 1000 and it's not cheap but checkaplate is not a cheap thing you are far better getting the vinal type thing but not from clark rubber as they charge like the light brigade. bunnings has the same stuff (depending on which one you go to) for less and if not they will price match.

and yes i do work there but i am not trying to swing you either way just help you get the best price. as for a boot you could spend $250 on lining it with somthing that will rattle and anoy you or marine carpet (yes you can get it from bunnings) will offer you a better soultion for less money.

as an option I paid 30 bucks for a shaped boot liner for the wifes kia, from Repco. you cut it to size, there are pre shaped lines stamped on the liner, ended up looking tops.

Pretty good price, I paid that 4 yrs ago from a metal shop that had good prices (still have the sheets at home in the shed )

If you do go with the ali chequerplate try to get the main straight edges cut with guilitine, then use jig saw for rest- fast speed is best but go very slowly and keep stopping to lube the blade up by running candle across it.
