guy at the brissie show told me that rather than air pressure to acuate the locker like the ARB, the TJM uses vacumn to actuate. According to him therefore the diff is not pressurised cutting the possibility of blowing seals out.

Just what he told me when i asked about it
Kym Bolton also told my friends and i that it is stronger because it uses a single plate instead of multiple plates and that they are releasing it in stages starting with toyota then soon it will be nissan etc.
dont know if this helps but i spoke to the TJM guy at LCMP on the weekend about it and he said that TJM bought out Mcnamara, so basically its the same with some refinements and from what i understood from him to lock it all up there is 4 dowels and 8 holes for the dowels to lock into. He seemed to think they were better then arb's for the reasons mentioned before about o'rings and the like........but for the money id rather buy an arb till they are proven reliable

If at first you dont succeed.......get a bigger HAMMER!!!
Lets hope a pricing war will reduce the price to a percent of the cost to produce, not "what the market will bear" as we have had to put up with.
While it would be good if these are produced in Australia I imagine the chinese could churn them out pretty cheap and still maintain the quality. I hear Boeing are going to be building planes there soon...
Also, if TJM can do it I am sure others can too...
We should all be able to afford a decent locker....

Either way these shops have repared a few ARB's in their time and figured that they can build a better locker that would avoid all the problems that tey've had to repair in the past.
Apparently Kym Boltons GU has them.....well his rig was painted in the TJM colours and he's supporting the pro locker logos.
They will only do the most recent popular 4WD's because they figure only small demands.
Either way a pit of compitition may reduce the prive of either!!!
that what ive heard from one of the folks at the tjm store, could of just been sales pitch.
When I was at the show, I spoke to the guy at the TJM stand and Bolton's car still has ARB items as they haven't made any for Nissans yet.
It'll be good to have a competitor for ARB.....could be price fight soon....maybe....

sounds interesting... highly unlikely, but interesting... i actually called JACMAC today to enquire about some bits and have to call back tomorrow...
will ask jeff tomorrow if this is true or not
You are right, Kim Boltons truck is still running the ARB locker, as the Pro Locker is not yet released for Nissans. I work for TJM and they told us the release date starting with Toyotas will be June
Its good to see another air locker on the market but better to see that they are both Aussie designed and built. OI, OI, OI .As for paying $1200 for a locker i got mine for $925 new RD23 from Duncan at MACQUARIE.
Lockers or Knockers ,both will make for fun.

The only thing TJM has bought from Macnamara is the Locker. JacMac make these for TJM.
arb's are pretty bloody strong, I've never meet anyone whos broken one, in fact after visiting arb on a supplier tour I was privy to a test scenero where every manufacturers axels broke before the locker did.
I love my arb air locker and will always trust it to out last my axles.
but bring on the competition, i'm all for cheaper prices.
rocknferoza wrote:Not 100% sure but I think someone broke an air locker at WEROCK
No it was an Install Problem.
I run ARB lockers and have done for years. and have been harder on them then most people ever will. I broke an early one years ago and this was because i engaged it while a wheel was Spinning. ARB still re[placed it under warranty. I have never had a seal problem with my ARBs. And i have used the same centres and seals in about 10 diff centres now. If you have had problems with the seals its either an instalation problem or you have had oil contamination.
I was one of the guys prototesting the ARB lockers for the Sierras years ago. Our brief was to try and bust them. Couldn't then and still haven't after 8 or so years. Tried and tested I reckon they are great value for money
I broke an early model 4 bolt one. Wasnt even giving it a hard time. New ones been there for 4yrs and no problems. Think the new one has 8bolts to hold it all together.
Ive had ARB lockers for about 20 years now ( early days it was the billet steel ones made by Roberts ) that ARB brought the design off and in the 4 different 4B's ive had there only been one leak and that was me pinching the O-ring i would never concider anything else especially a locker mechanism that uses pins and holes. For the same price as the ARB unit there got there work cut out for them selves.
I guy off the Surf site broke his front ARB locker in a Surf. Saw a picture of it and the locker has actually broken in two, (as well as the ring gear etc). Was about 2 yrs old.
If the TJM one is the JacMac locker, then I would be buying that one over the ARB locker. These are the go, and they are air pressure operated, not vacuum. These lockers have been around for ages in the LandRovers, and in my opinion are better than the Maxidrives also. Its just that JacMac the company are really hard to deal with depending on who you get on the phone.
I like them over the ARB due to the actuator mechanism, and over the Maxi as there is one pipe in only and the maxi have an external actuator. They're all strong though.
