Battery Mechanical Isolator Switch

.. as required by CAMS and CCDA guidelines. I'm looking at what options are available and the best way to do this.

My impression so far is that one of those large red 'T-bar' style mechanical switches would be the go, mounted somewhere inside the cabin. Surprisingly I'm havnig a hard time finding places that sell them, or something similar.

Also, what's the best point to isolate from? Straight from battery power before it gets into any part of the car? Someone I was talking to was talking about isolating ECU and ignition, but in the event of a fire or flamable liquid leak causing potential fire, I'd guess you'd want to isolate the entire electrical system.

Any info is appreciated.

Check out www.whitworths.com.au for similar style switches.

IIRC the idea is to totally isolate electrical power; ie. you turn the switch off and there's no 12v to anything. The idea is to isolate power quickly completely in the event of a major accident.

IF YOU ARE RUNNING 24V FOR THE WINCH ONLY DOES IT HAVE TO ISOLATE TO?
AND WHEN YOU THROW THE SWITCH DOES THE ENGINE HAVE TO STOP,OR CAN YOU USE THE KEY?

I jsut purchased a battery isolator swicth from globe batteries at Padstow and is a sealed unit so it is splashproof and has no chance of shorting. $50.00.

I already had the removable bar type isolator on the front bar and to be within the CCDA rule where both the driver and navi have to be able to reach the isolator I used a choke cable mounted in the cab and to the end of the isolator handle. It can now be reached both inside and outside the vehicle. :D

I believe that brawn 4x4 developed a kit to conform to regulations

was on the old 4x4tv on c31 about a year ago
