Hi every one very bad news to report The rta after this month will not allow 4wds to be lifted more than 2 inches over all so you need to get your engeneers cert before the end of may to keep it raised this is not a joke check it out with the Rta they have not advertised this as they want to get big 4wds off the roads so dont get caught out get it done ASAP

my mate got called in by the RTA and had to go over the pits and he was told by them there and by the enginneer that hes going to to get the defects and engeneering passed

In WA we have these regulations, in draft form but they are currently using it. The limit is 2" max lift if you do not want to get engineering and a lane change test done. You can get upto 150mm lift legal as long as you get engineering and a lane change test is done.
The lift can consisit of the sum of tyres, suspension and body lift. So you can have a 4" suspension lift and a 2" body lift, but have to run standard tyres!
I believe this is just the Australia wide rules that people have been talking about for the last 4 years.
It will only effect prople want larger then 6" lifts. But it is going to cost more to get mods legal.

from my interpretations you are correct, its just standardising rules, and making it clear that 2" is legal with no engineers

i have a 4" suspension lift in my Surf, i will need a engineer cert for it now.
i probably will have problems with my cruiser now.

So..... To contradict everything again. A 2" spring and 2" bodly lifted truck prior to 2000 will be legal? Needing engineers?
If you read it in context, 2" max full stop, but was open to interpretation......now definatly, and 4" susp only def suposed to have engineers cert

That is how I interpret it!!!! not a bad thing, and still have a very capble rig full engineered with those regs, not much different to now, and will make it easier on engineers as it is more or less down the line so less chance of anything coming back to them

So, on my zook, fitted with air springs, I have no bodi-lift, but can have 0" to 12" air lift in 10 seconds. I put the air springs in for the limo comfort, but at any time could raise it 1 foot. So in reality the vehicle has been lowered, showing no suspension lift at all.

if you have changed your suspension that much then you need an engineers already, but the fact that you can go to 12inches may not be passed by the engineer, i know in our testing (electrical products to the aus standards), that all normal operation conditions/positons are taken into account.
That also being said, if you fitted a limiting strap that stoped the airbags going over 2 inches, you would probable get it pass, then say you descide to remove it, then your car would no longer be engineered, and again you would be very liable if anything went wrong
So in conclusion, the setup you have and wont to use (In its current form), would not be within the guide lines

I assume if the automotive rules are the same as teh others that they would be inspected in any position that is adjustable by the end user, eg with the air bags at no extension and at full extension, the same would also apply to lockers i would think, they should probably do the lane change test engaged and disengaged. The only thing that may exclude this requirement may be instuction/warnings...
