hi all i just brought one.....ok im dreaming
does any1 own 1 in melbourne......i have seen a couple of h2 around allready, i know that hotel in the city has 1 but any actually out there that go off road.....would love to see 1 live in action.

there are a few Hummer H1's in Melbourne, as far as i know there are a few that are used as "tourers" i'm not 100% sure if anyone hardcore wheels them down here.
There was one entered into the winch challenges in NSW from memory.
The Hummer H2's will start to appear throught this coming year, however i think you will find that they will be treated as more of a range rover/toorak tractor.
The H1 and H2 do have amazing offroad capability with the H2 being the more civilized version.

we have one in our club. It has been out on a few trips. They are big, really big which can be a problem on some tracks as the wheel ruts are nowhere near compatible. This can also be a bonus on some tracks too.
Not much room inside them either.
I don't see the point in using them for pretty much any Aussie wheeling. A Patrol or Cruiser can out do them in pretty much any situation if you need a big vehicle.

I think you would be refering to the H1.
The H2 has around 20% more space than Landcruiser and Patrol, factory rear diff lock, factory 34" tyres, 345hp etc etc.
The H1 is BIG, loud, relatively uncomfortable, but handy if you feel like invading another country

actually the construction of the Silverado/Suburban chassis are amongst the strongest on the planet.
They run Hydro formed sections for the front 3rd which is where most of the load and stress is applied.

Maybe FUH2.com should get a hold of a 4.8ltr Petrol Patrol. Atleast with the H2 you get the horsepower.

I'd think that the issue FUH2 have is not just poor fuel economy. I'd imagine the 4.8 Patrol gets better then 10mpg anyway. 10mpg is what my brothers 5.7L V8 carby Cruiser gets and it is near impossible to keep the fuel up to that thirsty thing. However the H2 weighs in at 3855kg and the Patrol at 2350-2530kg depending on spec so those extra horsies you mention are going to be needed just to get that extra 1325kg moving.
I'm also sure that you would know that it takes more than a strong chassis (which it would want to be having all that weight) to make a good off road or on road vehicle.
Let me know if I have converted incorrectly as our F250 dual cab 4x4s only weigh in at 3300kg so 3855kg sounds like it is almost too heavy.

There are a few Humvee's in Melb that I know of, one in the TLCC too.
Two are regulalry used off road.
There are two in Sydney, mine is the only one used off road regularly up here.
There are two for sale, one reg RHD with twin airlockers, $50k from memory.
the other is nearly finished converion wise but unreg.
It will go down nearly any track that a 100 series or GU goes down it is only 200mm wider than them.

but it is the track width which can be the killer. I have been out a few times with a Hummer around Toolangi, Gembrook and Warburton areas. All are prone to deep ruts and the Hummer has had problems fitting into the ruts whichh makes it a problem when it gets quite tight and twisty

They are so fuel heavy due to their weight, I read somewhere that the bare chassis weighs about 3 quarters of a tonne alone, tough chassis eh, but if you want one that looks the same and fits in the ruts, then go for the Rhinobuggies convertion

Sorry you are wrong on the weight issue, as far as the my Humvee goes anyway, registered weight over the weighbridge after the RHD conversion and with all the stuff fitted for rego it weighed 2.7t which is about what any cruiser weighs on a weighbridge.
Bear in mind this is with all fluids and fuel, not adry production weight which is what most vehicles are registered as.
Fuel economy is no worse than my 1hz powered troopy was, but it is a bit slower due to the 3 speed trans.
The civvie hummers do weigh a lot more as they have all the crap in them.

The main body tub on all of them is aluminium as is the windscreen frame, the bonnet is Kevlar composite on all of them too.
The light armoured humvee's (which mine is) have compsite doors and 10mm thick windows, a full ROPS cage and turret, steel armour roof and slantback as well as armour plate inside the ally body and around the engine.
As I said the civvie Hummers share the same basic ally body shell with a steel roof and doors. It is all the crap inside that adds to the weight, trim flash seats, carpet, soundproofing, sound systems etc.
A full civvie hummer would weigh in excess of 3 tonne but has a bit more grunt than mine.

A fairly stout Fijian bloke at work is keen on one and I told him about the ex-mil reassembled (from the Gulf ?) camo fastback ones like yours were avail about the $60K mark somewhere.
Who does em ? How much, am I close ? Cheers. + Are they all 6.5L's ?
The guy at Overkill also said he had to replace the glass with non-bulletproof and change indicators to meet ADRs ??

a friend of mine up here has about 6 military ones that he is selling, 2 door utes, 4 door utes and slant backs. unconverted military spec. im pretty sure they were around the 60-70K mark......let me know if your friend wants anymore info and i can pass you on his phone number.
