SWB Pajero
Hey all,
I'm looking at buying a 4wd and the SWB Pajero's seem pretty good. What sort of things should i be looking at? Whats the difference between the J-Tops and the Aus versions? Are there any models i should stay away from ie GL's? How do they go offroad say compared to the LWB version and Patrols, bundy's and 4runner/surf/hiluxes??
Thanks,
Goona

I'm very happy with my shorty. It always goes where it's pointed and has been a good reliable 4x4. Sometimes it would be nice to have the extra room of a lwb but I'm always happy to be short when the track stops and at least I can turn around and head out forwards and not in reverse, or have to bash a lwb through the scrub to turn around.
Shorty Gen2, lots of stuff and more to come!
Hey Goona.
Poor me only got the 3L but it goes pretty good. It's got a snorkel and modded muffler. It pushes a set of 33" x 12.5 x 15 Pro Comp Mud terrains along pretty well. GrantW has the 3.5L so he can give you the low down there.
I must admit to giving the supercharger upgrade some serious thought. We've got some great beaches and dunes here in Tassie and some extra grunt would be great in the soft sand.

people lean towards the 3.5 because of the larger rear axle... i think grant has experience with snapping in his old 3L? i know a lot of other people on here have anyway.
and that is a lot of kms for an import, you should find one pretty cheap (~10k) with bit more than ½ that amount of k's.

3.5L is shite loads better, but rear lockers are very rare. Not to mention the added price tag that goes with them too. I loved my 3L but I must admit that the 3.5 certainly has heaps more torque and power.

I own a swb 3.5 j top (as u can see from sig ) and i think it's a great little 4x4, tall and wide enough to do be confident off road, and small and nimble enough around town. It goes very well in traffic light duels which u gotta be honest, thats where most of us use out forbies anyway.
If ur interested, mine is in the for sale section, and as i've stated, i 'may' sell it if someones really interersted. (Sorry, this ones a bit more than ~10k, but well worth it )

SWB are the best what can I say, I just went out with friends on the weekend and we come to a short but steep hill just off the track we were on. 4 of us attempted the hill, first was a Patrol with a front diff lock he made it up pretty easely, next was a patrol with no diff lock and he couldnt get up it and dinted his door doing so(a 05 model too )next was a double diff lock patrol and didnt make (scrub bars didnt hep, a little too wide) and then was me with no diff locks I climbed my way up 3/4 then had a little trouble, but just changed my angle and up I went
I think being a shorty help keep up with big boys.
Patrol not quite able to make it up
Me just before making it up

God i hate saying this but honestly guys you have to agree the paj is great for alot of things, you cant catch me on the beach, crusing long dusty roads or sideways around corners but when it comes to crawling well cant remember ever seeing one in a vid.
I have a Jtop twin locked with a really cool up button and can kick any modified 4wd on the fast stuff but kill myself when playing in the rocks 2 rear axels and one cv to prove it. Decide what you want to use your 4b for then pick the best one for the job, i am not saying be a clone but to be a true indervidule you better have a nice bank manager.
