Post your fuel economy and mods.

Post by JrZook »

Hey all just wondering what fellow zookers are getting fuel economy wise and what mods you are running ie, engine mods, gearing and tyres.
Ive got the 85 drover running a std 1.3 with pod filter, extractors and 2 inch sys, using a 1 litre tcase and 235/75 bfgs. The best i can get out of a tank on the highway is only 300k's max thats to 40L.
Tring to work out if this is about the average to expect.
Cheers, Dan

i thought mine was the only one in the 200's

I have a 1.3, extractors, 2"exhaust, k&N pushing 31's with 1ltr transfer and 3.9 diffs. Slightly heavy with the ARB bar and still has all the crap in the back. (tools etc)...

I get about 220km. May need a service but still very Grimace. A slightly modded tank, :)

cheers

1.6L 8v, 32/36 weber, extractors and 2" pipe.
215/75r15 tyres.
standard gears.
modded (about 5L) tank.

230km -> 30L

But i drive it hard... always taking off fast as poss. not overly revving it, but still faster than the other cars at the lights thats for sure. i reckon if i could bring myself to ease up on it (not gonna happen) id get 280-300 out of it.

I used to get about 180 or 190 (uncorrected Kms) from a tank on 33 swoompers or 35 claws (both about the sama height) that was feeding a worked 1.6 with SPOA etc etc and a series one rockhopper. (I guess I was getting around 220 or more out of a tank in real Kms).. I used to cane it as well .. would sit it on 115 or so on the freeway and normally launched it pretty hard as well.

My lil bro's Zuk that is stock as apart from 215's gets about 390 from a tank

Standard 1.3
Standard diffs

I went from having a zook that did 430K's per tank stock standard

to 350'k by simply putting on 30" ATRs

to 200 unadjusted k's with S3 gearing and 31" Simex ET

Stock standard 1.3. Running stock tyres and drivetrain I get to 340ks before running dry :D Tank fills up to ~34L when it's completely empty.

Driving at 120km/h for a full tank I got around 410k's... sitting at about 4300rpm the whole way

I'll see how much that changes soon when I get my cam, extractors, 2" exhaust, weber, and am running 33's. :D

I recently chucked on some 235 tyres, before that it was 100% stock and easily got over 500 k's to the tank. Recently I got to 480k's and it left me on the freeway. Not 100% sure whether it was the way I drove it that week. Tyres would have something to do with it.

the tyres will obviously throw out your speedo and odometer... you probably did infact do 500+ km... it just only read as 480 cos of the tyre size =)

built4thrashing - theres a HUGE difference in power when you chuck extractors on there =) my weber is also tuned for oompf rather than economy... but the gasses just cant get outa there fast enough without extractors!

From the extractors i have 3" pipe to the cat, then 2" from cat to muffler and out the back. muffler is from my old 1.5" system for the 1.3l.. if i changed that i might get even more flow.

Extractors certainly worth it for the gains it brings.

Yeah your right, I didn't think about that, all I thought about was the extra surface contact, hence greater friction. I tell ya my car definitely handles better now, not as far as cornering goes but stopping is lots faster, also I can hardly even rip burnouts anymore.

i was staying with the stock manifold to get more low end hp and not top end. it still revs to 7,ooo.but looses puff in the high revs

really? it felt like i gained more low end torque with my extractors... much more revvy in the low range... its a lot happier when holding 500-3000rpm than it is at 4000-6000!

i generally change gears at 3000-3500 rpm as thats the vit motors peak torque, and it really feels like it wants a new gear at that point.

gear change RPM obviously also affects economy... lots of low changes and slow acceleration will save a lot of fuel =) but keep it low and plant the foot youll flood it pretty easily. smelly.

After I had my Vit carb modded, and ported head etc installed .. it was very similar in seemed to peak about 3500 . would happliy spin up past 6000 though ..

I felt a gain in torque when I installed extractors and 2 inch exhaust.. mostly notable between 500 and 2500 rpm ..
